Cusco sports oil filter

Tried doing a search, didn't find much info. Does anyone have any experience with this oil filter? I'm current running the stock Subaru with a Filtermag, but the Filtermag doesn't fit well, to tall for the filter. I was hoping the Cusco with the built-in magnet is at least comparable in quality/filtration to the Subaru oil filter?
Anyone?

Thanks

I was looking at the Greddy one myself but my distributor didn't have any in stock for me to try out. I think its cheaper than the cusco maybe too.

You could consider the HKS filter as well as it also has a magnet. And it costs roughly $10 less.

Guys, you are heading down the completely incorrect path using Cusco, Greddy and HKS filters. It would be like buying a turbo kit from Koni.

We have used the Amsoil Extended Life Oil Filters and OEM Subaru Filters for 10+ years and they have never failed or failed to filter properly. I would suggest either of those 2 filters rather than re-badged stuff from companies that are not oil or filter experts.

We've done 10,000 oil changes since 2001 when we founded our business, 99% of them have been done on Subies. Of those Subies about 85% of them have been with Subaru OEM Filters. We have never seen or had issues with the OEM filters.

Now the STi Filters over the years have been hard to get but I am almost positive that putting one of those on a WRX has given us 15-25whp gain on the Dyno. It's only if you use the JDM STi filters though, any other "regular" STi filter like EDM or USDM will not yield the gains of the JDM STi Tyte Type Filter. :happyanim:

The HKS and Cusco filters are much smaller than the big 15208AA130 part number OEM filter.

Yet another reason to NOT use them...

Would you mind explaining why a physically smaller filter makes it a bad filter?

Push 03-08-2013 03:10 PM

TRD filter would be a better alternative... Or OEM...

More filter media.

SXE10 03-11-2013 05:25 AM

I've use a Cusco filter on my Altezza 3SGE. They're very well made. Extremely solid case, synthetic filter media, high flowing & built in magnet. Well worth the expense if you're heading to the track regularly but OEM is more than adequate for everyday use.
Here's a pic of it cut open.

The stock Subaru 130 filter is a good piece. Someone posted pics a while ago with a bunch of different filters cut open for comparison. The Subi 130 looked to be one of the best built filters.

If you simply must spend a pile of money on a filter, try one of these... http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?prod=SS-1004
