Installation of Perrin exhaust system.

This isn't actually about the installation itself but some technicality I ran into. Firstly I live in Texas, I have been calling shops because I don't own a lift yet and they are telling me they can't install the new front pipe because I need 80k miles for it to be legal. Does this mean I am going to have to find someone to do it that is not a business?

Or should I go in and intentionally ruin the current converter to make it legal to put the new one on lol..

I had no problems going through Phastek in Houston, in fact they are putting in my front pipe (and other stuff) right now.

You don't need a lift. Just a jack and some stands, or even ramps.

Have you asked anyone in the Austin thread for help? I'm sure someone has the tools and very basic skills needed to do this install.

My friend knows how, just no stands I guess it wouldn't be too pricy to just buy some stands.. probably cheaper than an install..

Much cheaper. Years ago when I lived in an apartment I just backed my car up onto the curb and put wheel chocks down and changed my catback that way.

lol so so ghetto...

I bought 4 nice jackstands 13.99 for two on sale at Harbor Freight and a 2.5 ton low profile jack from there as well for 79.99 with 20% off of that. They work nicely and have the pinch on the tops to match the pinch welds.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think BRZ club did the front pipe install and needed to lift the motor to swap the pipe?

I'm debating whether to do it myself because I'm not fond of pushing the motor up while its sitting on stands.

You dont need to jack up the motor. Remove the front pipe, that way you have room to mess with the overpipe. What I did then was remove the nuts from the header to overpipe. Then I manipulated the overpipe and took the heat shield apart, then twisted the overpipe to get it out.

It takes some patience but can be easily done. Then install your new overpipe, then new front pipe. Easy peasy, just use new gaskets or you'll leak.

You can do it yourself. I did a catback in about an hour on ramps. Just buy some crappy jackstands so you don't die. It's not like they ever go bad, just buy some.

Isn't the primary cat for our car in the header? If so, shouldn't it be emissions legal to replace the front pipe then?

Roll up on some ramps, then jack up the rear end, and slide some jack stands underneath. Should take a noob an afternoon. No biggie.

Sears is having a sale on craftsman jack stands. I bought myself a set last night and went to pick them up this morning!

Missed a hell of a deal on the 13.99 Harbor Freight ones.
