Spousal consultation
Quick question: did anyone else buy this car without consulting the spouse/significant other?
My wife was surprised, and a bit pissed off; I'd been driving a Camry for ten years. She got over it quickly, but still teases me about my midlife crisis car. At this point I think she's actually happy to see me have something I enjoy. Her killjoy friend still has a problem with it; some people can't stand to see someone else have fun. |
Not married, so no. My girlfriend gets zero input on how I spend my money.

Current Mrs Coyote loved the idea from the word go and just wants me to hurry up and turbocharge it.
Ex Mrs Coyote used the words "midlife crisis" and rolled her eyes. If I'd upgraded cars to same extent I have women, they'd be a Ferrari 458 in the garage. |
There was a video of a Scion commercial here full of bitchy wives...
I'd been searching for a Cayman so the "buy a sports car" thing wasn't new to her but she did mention she was surprised (she was with me at the dealer) when I said yes because she thought I would wait for the right Cayman. |
When i told the gf I was looking for a new car she got very excited. She knew my last car had issues and she promoted the idea of buying new
|
Bought it for my wife.
I tapped, I talked, I conquered. |
I oscillated between restoring an NA/NB Miata, building a kit car (MEV Sonic 7), or getting a new car. 3-4 months of indecisiveness drove Mrs. Shankenstein nuts, but financially it made more sense to get 1 car instead of 2 (daily driver + project).
After a long day at work and 1.5 hr commute (everyone decided to crash their car that day), I drop by the Scion dealership to place the order. She didn't like the "surprise!" aspect. She also didn't like the color (I wanted Lava, she wanted Asphalt). We both loved the car duing the test drive, and she could tell I was smitten. In the end, she got over it... just focus on the positives like "it makes me really happy" and "it's safer than ____ option, which would have been a total deathtrap." |
Well with me, I had just bought a new 45 grand pickup like 6 months before so she
was not really impressed and hated the idea until i let her test drive it at the dealer. Also i used the cheaper car insurance, and gas price gimmick haha |
I asked neither the wife nor the girlfriend. :D
To clarify, I'm separated and getting divorced, and in another relationship, which started after my separation. I was at the Toyota dealer getting my tC serviced, and I thought I might walk down and inquire about an FR-S waiting list. They were taking $500 deposits, so after a brief moment of thought I figured, what the heck, and put the money down. |

I got married to my wife 3 weeks before the purchase. We also had a new house. Needless to say, she wasn't suprised nor happy, but she knows it makes me happy, so it doesn't bother her.
The only thing that bothers her is that I spend more time with my car than her lol |
If the wife complains, just do a good handbrake turn and she'll forget all about being mad and immediately want to fornicate with you. It's science.

I'm my own boss!
Which really just means I'm single and lonely... but I still got the car right!?!?! I figure I need to go about assembling all my toys now, before I get married. Then make sure I get a prenup so I can keep all the toys when I get a divorce! |
Man, I'm never letting a chick run my life. lol
I showed my GF a picture of the FR-S I'm getting, and she's pretty excited about it. |
