DIY Functional FR-S Fog Light Delete Grill
I did this so that I could put an oil cooler behind it and still have an OEM look.
http://i.imgur.com/YpyiK45.jpg I tried multiple ways to cut this: hot knife, a dremel with zipbits or cutting wheels, an air saw, and an exacto knife. The exacto knife was by far the most precise and best way to cut it. The plastic is pretty soft and cuts fairly easily. Any of the other methods I used leave annoying burrs and aren't precise enough. The exacto knife takes a while. I think its took me 2-3 hours to do the whole thing, but I had to take lots of breaks to keep from getting frustrated. The results were worth it though. Also, be careful not to cut yourself. I lost focus near the end and sliced myself pretty good. |
I wish this is how they came from the factory.

Nicely done, I was thinking about doing that myself. How does the piece come out? just pulling?

How bad you cut yourself? Love the home made band aide. Little paper towel and some tape, works every time

Just did mine. I had the bumper off to do a splitter install. The housings were not easy to get out, even with the bumper off. I don't think you could get enough grip to pull this out from the front. I had to push really hard from behind before it would pop out.
I used a Dermel tool with a cutting shaft. I roughed out the holes and then used a sharp Xacto knife for final trim. I cut vertical rectangular holes in the wheel well liner to allow air coming into the housings to get to the backside of the wheels to hopefully give extra brake cooling. |
Nice work guys. Was thinking of doing this as well.
