Anyone have any good/bad experiences dealing with Liberty Toyota or Lawrence Toyota??

Title says it all.

Both these dealers are located in Central New Jersey.

I will be visiting Liberty tomorrow to test drive an FR-S for the first time.

I was able to get my wife on board with me getting out of my 4-door Si to get into an FR-S.

Any purchasers here have experience at either of these dealers?

I dealt with Liberty Toyota back in late May 2012 when they got their first shipment of Scion FR-S(they had 5 of them at the time). They let me test drive it and everything. I was ready to deal with them, but they had a markup price of $8k on the car. Got the manager involved, they wouldn't budge and they were adding stupid paint protection\accessories that I didn't want.

Hopefully, you might have better luck.

Holman Toyota are pretty nice if you want to drive a little more south. I've dealt with them on getting on their waiting list back in June 2012(I was number 2). No Mark-up/MSRP Price. Easy to lay down a deposit.

As you can see, I got a Subaru BRZ Limited instead cuz I was able to find a dealer who had one available(July 3rd). Holman got my Scion FR-S a week later. If I didn't found the dealer who had the Subaru BRZ Limited, I would've ended up with the Scion FR-S.

That's somewhat disappointing to hear... Hopefully they have changed their ways. However, comparing their inventory to other local dealers (they have more than one, others have none) may support the idea that they are still marking them up.

I'll report back tomorrow after my test drive.

There is a 0% chance that they will get me to pay a dime above 'pure pricing'.

Just mentioning, you may want to take a drive up to DCH Toyota on 1 north in North Brunswick. It's not too far from Lawrence. I had a great sales experience there. I talked to Adam Gruber (salesman) and Tong (sales manager), along with Atman (another salesman, took me for the test drive since I don't drive stick). They're all really nice guys and won't try to screw you like Lawrence seems to be doing. Straight MSRP there, no BS.

(If you go there, mention Andrew w/ the Raven FR-S. :D)

From the emails I've exchanged with Lawrence, they are not marking up the price. But they don't have with a manual transmission in stock, so Liberty is the first stop.

Whoops, that was Liberty. Misread the other post.

STAY AWAY from LIBERTY

They screwed me over, I drove an hour and a half there after working with the salesmen all day. Then I get there and they wanted $5,000 over sticker!! I was Pissed they wasted my time.

I called Scion directly to bitch about them, and they were no help.

I work for Team Toyota, same owners as Lawrence Toyota, as a service writer - we are over the river in Langhorne PA - 10 minutes down the road

Both of our stores have not been playing games and no markups over stock. My inventory at Team on Friday of last week had a decent mix of both drivetrains, but given our service department is 400 yards down the road I don't get a chance to walk the lot that often.

A good friend of mine took delivery of his FR-S last week and I got a good look at our incoming allocation - everything but Firestorm was coming in over the next few weeks. Our holiday weekend was very busy, I'm not sure what's left.

I'd be happy do direct you straight to one of my sales managers if you're interested.

Wow guys!! Thanks for the words/heads ups/help!!

Simmons, that really sucks to hear!! Fortunately, I'm only 15 minutes from Liberty, so I really don't mind showing up to get my first FR-S test drive and then literally lol'ing in their face when they try making me pay over sticker.

Fled, thats awesome! Thanks so much. I know exactly where Team is. I drive by it every week. I'll update with how tomorrow morning goes, and I greatly appreciate getting set up with some honest humans if/when things go wrong at Liberty.

Just make sure it's MSRP with no accessories added on the car. Dealers love adding stuff on the car that you don't want.

Liberty Toyota wanted to put all the worthless accessories on the car before they would sell. The salesman saved me time and said go somewhere else.

I had a deposit at DCH (S. Brunswick), I wanted over 3 months and nothing.

Lawrence Toyota got my FR-S the next day. Pure price, no markups.

Went to Liberty today. They didn't have a markup. They actually had a $500 rebate on the car, but ~$1300 worth of nonsense that I said I would not pay for. They also tried running my credit before I even looked at the car. I laughed.

They ran through every trick in the book (extend the loan term, lease instead, 'do you like the tC?', etc) because I told them what I was willing to pay a month and they didn't want to work with me.

If you could PM me the info so I can email the sales manager at Team, I'd appreciate it. I would like to see if they will beat the 'offer' from Liberty.

A side note regarding my initial impression during my test drive:

I was a bit under impressed. Going in, I knew not to expect any significant difference in acceleration from my civic (and I didn't beat on it either), but the powerband felt pretty bland.

The biggest disappointment though is the sound. I'm not convinced Toyota/Subaru put ANY time/thought into making the car sound as sporty as it truly is. Intake/exhaust/engine sounds actually put a frown on my face... I expected it to be relatively quiet, but it has no character, whatsoever. Some noise makers will certainly by in order should I get one.

blackraven1425 02-19-2013 06:09 PM

You really do need to beat on it to get the most out of it. I was a bit underwhelmed by the straight line up route 1, but once we got the the ramps around Ryders Lane, it really became clear what the car was about.
