VS Celica GT and Celica GTS
This isn't necessarily a buying thread, just wanted some insight.
I currently drive a 2000 Celica GT and looking to switch to the BRZ in the summer. How does the acceleration feel on the BRZ compared to the Celica GT? How does the acceleration feel on the BRZ compared to the Celica GTS? The GTS surely is similar to the BRZ in terms of power/weight. Insight from owners who have actually owned these cars would be best. |
Not perfect, but I'd use my old '04 GTP as a comparison. Slower off the line (than a torque-heavy big supercharged 6-cyl), but faster at the top end, and very close overall if you're talking from stop to 60mph. I destroyed a Celica GT once in the GTP, so there's where I come full circle.
You can feel the FR-S passing the torque dip. It's actually perfectly fast after that point. This car is about everything other than acceleration, so my only other comment would be to not be concerned with that. |
I traded in my 2003 Celica GTS for my FRS and it pulls so much more smoothly than the GTS ever did, it's beautiful not having to fight the steering wheel on the FRS under hard acceleration and the FRS handling is awesome. Sounds better too! I love my FRS, you'll love it too, get out there and get one.

ditto

The GTS had what..198 or less HP based on the OLD HP testing method..saw a drop to around 168 after that (conveniently after the Celica production run). The Corolla Type-s/XRS carried the engine over and they saw their HP numbers drop accordingly.
Weight is similar, but power is down about 30hp - plus it is rear/front. Celica was a fun car - just not the same. FRS is a joy :) |
Thanks for the responses, they are exactly what I wanted to hear.
I know this car's acceleration isn't its strong point, but quality acceleration is important and any car. I'm looking forward to a more constant response, especiaelly from 13+ year newer car. |
I had a 2002 celica gt auto...The FR-S felt like a 300hp champ coming from that :) after awhile you start to get to use to the power in the frs...but the celica gt auto was crazy slow.

Yup there is a night and day difference in how flexible the FA20 is compared to the 2zz. The Celica was a GREAT car though and I actually prefer the engine sound over the twins.

Yeah the FRS/BRZ feels much more linear in it's power delivery. Not sure that it feels THAT much faster, but just easier to deal with on a daily driver (especially in comparison to the GT-S).
I've owned a 2000 GT (manual), 2003 GT TRD (manual), and a 2003 GT-S TRD (manual). |

I wanted the GT-S Tsunami Edition (I think it was only sold in Canada?) but it was like 30g for that. A RSX Type-S would have been cheaper. |

Then moved on to a little more power...G35 Coupe...Genesis Coupe V6..etc. |
