FRS/BRZ Extreme racing or Traditional racing for success?

I find FLD can be annoying sometimes, but found this episode raised an interesting question regarding this new generation. Scion and Subaru are taking two different directions in the way that they are marketing this car to the enthusiasts. So which one will be more successful? Is extreme racing the new way or is it a fad? Or is this just a stupid question as in the end it doesn't really matter?

Extreme racing? WTF?

Drifting is not racing, it's automotive figure skating. And drag racing and time trials are very much "traditional".

Just disregard the definitions and focus more on the different approaches the two companies are taking. Scion's approach really hasn't helped them increase their sales or popularity in America. Will things change if they keep doing the same thing? Or should Scion change their approach and do something else?

TOYOTA LEMANS 2012

Off Topic a bit but has anyone have news on Toyota LeMans return ?

Hehe sorry for the repost. Didn't see it in the video section so I assumed no one posted (:

The BRZ race car makes me want to buy a BRZ. Really.

I have absolutely no desire in drifting or anything like that. But I still prefer the FR-S because of the styling and the color options offered.

I'd personally like to see a Scion race car but look at it this way; more people unfortunately have already identified Scion with things like drifting and could care less about road racing. So I guess my point is doing something to promote the car is better than nothing?

The roots of the AE86 was road racing. Is Scion going to rely on formula drift to market this car. Is that all that the younger generation cares about now? Why not just go back to the roots and do road racing with the FRS. It just seems like Scion is trying too hard to be cool. What is Toyota going to be doing for the rest of the world markets with the GT86/86 and motorsports?

yeah drift will probably take this car alot farther simply based on the demographic that i have observed at least. i have a bunch of ingorant friends who couldnt name a single f1 driver but they are constantly asking me stupid questions like how much it would cost to make their tc rwd so they can be like gushi or some jazz like that

Your tight nobody cares about Road Racing anymore...its all about the drift...but thanks to Toyota and Subaru the FR-S\86\BRZ can drift and road race with the best of them! Its the jack of all trades!

The only way Scion can change their approach is to replace the Toyota name in NASCAR because that's pretty much the only form of American auto racing Scion Racing hasn't been involved in. SCCA, Grand Am, NASA, Rally America, multiple NHRA teams... and once Subaru shakes down the BRZ GT300, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Scion FR-S in the American Le Mans Series and a GT-86 in FIA GT in Europe.

Drifting is fun to watch but grip is can be just as fun to watch. especially some old formula one races:

Why won't the FIA bring back ground effects?

But yeah, there is already a factory supported team running a tC in SCCA World Challenge and Grand Am Koni Challenge. Frankly I'd be surprised if they didn't switch over to the FR-S in a year or two.

honestly F1 is boring as shit right now. its too predictable. same thing for other road racing.

im not a fan of D1 but its something to attach excitement and unpredictability to like what the old group b and f1 races used to have.
