Change oil as often?
Had my first oil change at Toyota dealership after 1,500kms break-in period not going over 4k rpm and 100kph. Used 5w30 Toyota oil that they recommend for all the 86s here in Phils. At 2,500kms went to track the car and did 3 x 15 minute runs with 2 hour interval rest in day. Did some redline shifting with paddles. (Car is A/T with HKS intake/exhaust) Checked the oil next day and found some few powdery black stuff on the dipstick after morning start. Actually almost invisible. Is this something to be alarmed of? Thinking of changing the oil again. Is this a good idea?

Keep in mind that just because you passed the break-in period in your owner's manual, does not mean that the engine is fully broken in. You can get a used oil analysis done (search Blackstone labs), but metals always look high during the first 7,500-10k miles or so. Also, uoa's generally do not pick up wear metals much larger than around 5 microns.
I've never heard of the a powdery substance being found. -Dennis |
Is your hks filter dry or oiled? Check your throttle body to see any signs of oil.

Yes, change it... and filter.

Change it every 5,000kms regardless of what. That would be the best.

Thanks for the replies. Changed the oil, filter and crush washer (gasket). Oil was dark in color but no small particles whatsoever. Maybe its only normal to see micro particles during first few thousand miles/kms. Only got close to 4 liters that drained out but dipstick showed full before draining. My HKS air filter was dry and we don't have Blackstone or any oil analysis company here.
