Toyota NZ now supplying Motul 0w-20 for FT86
 

Thought this might be of interest to Kiwi members & also those trying to decide what oil to use. Doesn't get much better than manufacture approved.

Toyota NZ are now supplying Motul H-Tech 0w-20 for the FT86 :thumbup:
It is available through all NZ dealers although minimum order quantities are required so some of the smaller dealers may not stock it.

Was chatting to the Liqui Moly rep today and he said they have some nice 5w20. Liqui Moly is actually German made too

There's surprisingly quiet a lot of options in 20 weight when you start looking. You just wont find them at Repco or SuperCheap

Autobarn aren't much better with range of 0w20s. I can't think of where else to go, are there stores anyone can recommend? Bursons used to sell Redline but looks as if there are not going to sell it for much longer.

I've ordered Motul H-Tech myself. Bendigo Tyre and Wheel Centre have plenty of stock for anybody in Bendigo or nearby, and it's come in, so go get it!

Could you Aussies/Kiwis explain to me the difference between this and the Eco-Lite 8100 Motul? With Eco-Lite in the name I don't really...trust...it, but I'm sure it's a good oil being Motul and all.

Eco-Lite just means that it's formulated to "standard" specification, which is fine for road use or especially in my sort of situation-- my oil will be lucky to have 900km on it before it gets changed again. You don't want to use it for race purposes-- but a quick note, blasting a winding road, then driving home, is -not- a race application. Eco-Lite is fine for perfomance motors, just don't cook it day in day out (can't do that in Australia anyway unless you like your car impounded...) The 300V and the H are high-RPM suitable. Which would be nice, but our cars aren't high-RPM.

EDIT; Also, "fun days" at racetracks aren't racing. You've got plenty of time cooling off when you can't pass idiots who can't corner and you're also unlikely to put the stresses on it that a real race driver would. Plus it's longer lasting than race oil anyway-- which provides better protection but breaks down faster (Less lifespan, more lubrication, like castor oil)

Basically think "Eco-Lite" == Mobil 1 or Valvoline ProSynth. Our engines are made for light oil so no big deal, low friction pistons etcetera.

Mobil 1 Racing is a bit different, but that's a racing oil...

Mobil 1 Racing will kill cats...racing oils aren't really for street cars with emissions equipment. Quality synthetic is a quality synthetic right?

That's it, they break down past the scraper ring and get into your combustion chamber and eeeyup dead cat.

Quality synthetics are important.
