Attempted BRZ headlight theft, happened to anyone else?

Yesterday I found my BRZ had been penetrated and manhandled by someone else (read that as having the window smashed, everything in the glovebox stolen, the hood opened, and a lot of the bolts removed from the front bumper and headlights) :(. I always leave the inside of the car 100% empty, in pristine condition, and in a high-traffic area to make sure there's as little undisturbed time as possible, so there was no obvious reason to break into my car. I seriously believe they were only after my headlights.

I've warned people in my area: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...306#post735306

And yesterday:

I'm wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen. Are BRZ headlights really that sought after (maybe a swap for Scions, or just wanting the bulbs for this http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/02/t...a-grow-lights/ )?

Hopefully this is a one-off incident and no one else has to go through this!

I have heard of people stealing headlights for grow lights... Or it was a tuner looking to make a quick swap. Who knows?

Best of luck getting all figure out... Poor car

Rage! I will go bonkers if this happened to my car :(

Dude... That's MESSED UP! I guess our "security alarm" is only for when the car is actually trying to be stolen??? Sorry this happened bro. I'm guessing the police did the normal shoulder shrug instead of trying for some prints? Know they didn't get much but it would still be nice to link small crimes like this to assholes out there that should be in jail or just straight out shot.

This is why I have a viper alarm that has a pager. Sorry about your car that really sucks. First thing I tell people when they buy this car is to install an alarm system that will notify you of someone breaks into your car.

"A couple of Subaru brz headlights would pull a premium one week before race wars." But that really sucks i would be so pissed!

If they opened the hood shouldn't the alarm have gone off??

I guess it's a good thing that you cannot remove the headlights on our cars without completely removing the front bumper...takes a while for someone who doesn't know exactly what they are doing...plus all those plastic pop rivets are a pain.

The broken window really annoys me. If you are going to break into my car, at least have some class. It's not like frameless window cars are really hard to break into either... I've seen locksmiths do it in about 3 seconds flat.

I might suspect some kind of jelly scionbag. Shame to hear thats what people are doing for ~$1,500 of parts, glad they failed hard.
