I must say I would take this over anything

It is really not bad. They should sell this as an Opel Omega OPC here in Europe.

I wanted the Vauxhall Insignia VXR with the twin turbo v6 and AWD for a very long time. I got all excited when they decided to bring that chassis to the US as the Buick Regal and promised a hopped up version with all the goodies. It came out with a weak turbo 4 and FWD.

I don't know why they refuse to bring Holden/Vauxhall/Opel's to the states under their real names. I'd rather have a Holden logo then a Chevy one. The bowtie is ugly.

The new Commodore looks awesome.

Yeah they totally killed dream of having all the performance of the cars in other countries when they being them over to the u.s. I agree I would like the other badges other than the bowtie.

"Chevrolet has unveiled its new top-of-the-line high-performance sedan based on the next-generation Holden VF Commodore from Australia. Shown just before the 2013 Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida — where it will compete on Feb. 24 — the new 2014 Chevrolet SS shares a platform with the Camaro and new Caprice police car. It will slot above the Impala in both performance and price when it goes on sale later this year. If the lines look somewhat familiar, they should — GM used to sell the last generation of this sedan through Pontiac outlets as the G8, where it was a favorite of car enthusiasts but relatively unknown among the general public.

The new rear-wheel-drive sedan will be a performance halo vehicle for the Chevrolet brand. It features the Corvette's LS3 V-8 engine: 6.2 liters of naturally aspirated muscle motor making 415 horsepower and 415 pounds-feet of torque routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. It is Chevrolet's first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan for the U.S. market since the demise of the last Impala SS in 1996.

Unlike the new Impala or the old Pontiac G8, however, the Chevy SS is going to be more expensive and focus almost entirely on performance. Standard will be a Brembo brake system, a sport suspension and forged-aluminum 19-inch wheels wrapped with Bridgestone ultra-high-performance tires. A paddle-shift system will allow drivers to select their own gears. An aluminum hood and trunk are 30% lighter than comparable steel panels and contribute to the car's near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution.
Inside, the SS will come fully equipped with standards like leather seats, a touch-screen center console with navigation and Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, a Bose nine-speaker sound system, push-button start, forward collision alert and lane departure warning, a color heads-up display on the windshield and the first application of an autonomous parking system for any Chevrolet in the U.S. Prominent SS script will be stitched into the leather interior as well.

Previously, the SS moniker (for Super Sport) was applied only to high-performance versions of existing Chevy nameplates (Camaro SS, Impala SS). This marks the first time the trim level will be used as a vehicle name by itself, and on paper at least, it seems a fitting name for what promises to be a monster." Cars.com

So, it's a G8, only MORE expensive, and doesn't look anything like as good what with all the silly chrome trim and god-awful giant gold bow-tie emblems. Hmmm...

I'm a big fan of understated styling, but I do not care for the results of blandifying the Holden.

Then again, as I look at the two, are the only differences the badges and paint color? Somehow that gold Bow-tie makes my brain immediately think of 1970s/80s square-bodied Chevy Caprices...

Agreed that bowtie kills it for me.

Grille looks really cheap i would have to swap that out immediately, the Holden one isn't any better i think they could have done a cleaner job on the whole front bumper/grille area. The lower part actually looks like a Hyundai is what i'm seeing.

NYC BRZ 02-16-2013 01:53 PM

I had a G8 GT before the BRZ with 351whp/364wtq and damn do i miss it. I had high hopes for the SS and it really looks good. The grill is a bit weak but the car is nice. They missed the boat big time by not offering a manual option. The Aussie cars get to have all the fun. The 6spd G8 GXP owners breathed a sign of relief this morning now that they know th wont take a depreciation hit. I still really want a 6spd GXP and hopefully ill get one when the BRZ is paid off.

'Performance halo vehicle' without a manual trans is counterproductive. I hope they get the hint because there seems to be potential here. Nice look for a chebby.

The bowtie looks awful on anything that's not a truck or vintage in my opinion.

ZDan 02-16-2013 03:12 PM

Yes, big gold bowtie MUST GO.

Weirdly enough, I had a '95 purple Z28 6-speed, and I LOVED the contrasting orange/red bowtie outline emblems on it (mid front bumper, offset to right on rear bumper)!

It's funny you say that. I was trying to imagine what it would look like if they modernized it. Maybe just a chrome outline of the bowtie or just make it chrome instead of the gaudy gold color.

The tailights are copied from the JZX100 Cresta.
