Will TE37SL wheels wrapped in 235/45/17 be good?

I've just ordered a set of Volk TE37SL wheels in 17x8.5 +45 and was just wanting to get people's opinion on a tire size for it. I was initially looking 225/45/17, however friends kept insisting on going the 235s...so what would be better to wrap them in, for looks and performance wise; 225s or 235s? I'm new to the whole car mods scene (or rather sport car scene) so I'd be thankful for any input.

245/40/17
235/40/17
225/45/17

I would pick in that order.

245/40/17 would be my first choice on an 8.5 wide wheel too, and is almost identical rolling diameter to stock too.

thanks for the input guys, would the 245/40/17 fill out the wheel wells much better? this is without lowering it as I live in a country town with high gutters lol. Also with the '40' rating will this give the pinched look? because I've always liked seeing a bit of beef in the tire.

It will look beefy with the 40..

8.5 is too big for little 225.. I would go with the 40/17's
45/17 any size would give u a lot of sidewall..

nice rims.

Pinch comes from section width. A 255 would look pinched, a 245 might depending on brand, and a 235 will not be pinched. The two digit number in the middle (sidewall aspect ratio) refers to how much sidewall there is in relationship to the section width (they vary positively).

heres mine same spec 17x8.5 +45 with 225/45 with 1in drop I would go 235/45 to fill the gap a bit more but speedo will be off by 2miles with coils i would go 245/40

Thanks guys! this has made my selection process much easier!

For being new to the scene I must say you picked an amazing set of rim's!

Match them with a quality tire and you will enjoy the setup.

Haha it may have had something to do with the fact that I was obsessed with wheels from a weight/forged aspect rather than looks...and when I saw the TE37SL's they were just undeniable to me, and the fact that I was able to get a brand new set only for $2500!

Great choice for rims and awesome price. I have the same dilemma of tire sizes as well. Just ordered me a set of TE37 17X8 +44 and was trying to decide on tire sizes. Good thing I checked out this post and know which size to go with.

Haha glad this thread could help you Kamui! and yes the price was just too good to pass up, because I didn't really intend on getting TE37SL because I knew they were going for at least 3 - 4K per set. :party0030:
