Why does my FRS sound like a typewriter?

Subaru flat engines are kind of notorious for being clacketey. That's totally not a word but I'm sticking with it.

DO NOT drive this car when you hear such sound. The ninjas have deployed a ticking bomb under your hood. When explodes, it causes severe injury! The only way to resolve this is to have a controlled detonation.

Cam driven high pressure fuel pump for direct injection. It's fine. A FA20 is actually pretty quiet compared to other DI setups. Fords are significantly louder, as are some (all that I've heard) of the 4B11 Mitsu's. BMW's are only marginally quieter, though I understand they use a little different system.
