Can anyone here tell me what parts actually get replaced when an oil service is done? Either Subaru or Scion/Toyota?

I need to check this against my local dealer but want to know before I go have the argument with them.

Should be Oil, Oil Filter, and Crush Gasket. They probably throw in some xx-point inspection/top off fluids/etc deal into the package, but that's nothing you couldn't do on your own anyway.

OH wait, I think I misread your question. Are you asking if they use Subaru *or* Toyota filters?

No, that was it. My parts guy said they also change the AC filter. Problem I have is I have asked for a breakdown of how they get to the cost and even the senior management do not want to tell me how the AED 985 bill for the oil service is made up. I have no problem paying for it but I want to understand how they get to it. If you take into consideration that the oil service on a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 is AED 470.

I need to confirm the individual parts used in a oil service so I can do my own calculations before I discuss this wit the CR Manager.

According to my invoice the only part replacement was the oil filter, part #

Even with an AC filter, that's pretty expensive. I'd think oil would be cheap out there in the UAE as well.

Our cars come with a maintenance schedule document which will show everything that the dealer does and you should do at mileage increments.

> First oil and filter change required at 7500 miles or by 7.5 months using the required 0w-20 synthetic oil

Oil changes required at least every 7500 miles or 7.5 months
Rotate tires every 7500 miles or 7.5 months
Engine coolant is Subaru long life coolant and should be checked, but the replacement interval is 11 years 0r 137,000 miles.
Timing chain: no replacement schedule

> 15,000 miles or 15 months: oil/filter change, rotate tires, replace cabin air filter. Check, inspect, and replace as needed- the rear differential gear oil, automatic transmission fluid, engine coolant, brake system, steering, suspension, clutch operation, engine coolant
> 30,000 miles or 30 months: oil/filter change, rotate tires, replace engine air filter, cabin air filter, brake fluid, and clutch fluid. Check, inspect, and replace as needed- belts, hoses, all gear and transmission fluids, brake and steering systems, suspension, clutch operation, engine coolant.
> 45,000 miles or 45 months: repeat the 15000 mile service above
> 60,000 miles or 60 months: oil/filter change, rotate tires, replace spark plugs, replace automatic transmission fluid, engine air filter, replace cabin air filter, brake fluid, clutch fluid. Check, inspect, and replace as needed belts, hoses, all gear oils, engine coolant (top off if needed), brake, steering, suspension, clutch lines, fluids, and operation.

Currently the dealer will sell the oil at AED 70 per litre. Works about US$ 20 per litre. I need 6 litres for a change so that is US$ 120 already. If I do this myself or outside the dealership the warranty is void.

The difference in oil service between my 86 and a LC V8 is AED 515. My oil is more expensive by AED 308 (AED 420 - AED 112). I want to know why my oil service is AED 207 more expensive than a LC oil service with no apparent reason. I feel that it is only fair that the dealer tell me why I pay a 21% premium for nothing?

Wow, that doesn't seem right. You should be able to get 3 oil changes for that price. Also, how can they void your warranty for performing diy maintenance?

It's a bit silly in North America when do-it-yourself'ers complain about a difference of $10-$15 dollars for six quarts of oil. Some even complain about a $5.00 difference. :D

In the U.S., add-ons are very popular so it's best to tell the dealer exactly what you want done instead of just telling them you want the "7,500 miles" service or whatever. It could mean the difference of paying $45 or $95. You might want to find out what the factory recommendations are for your region.

Are you able to go to someone other than a main dealer for this information? Is Al Khoory a distributor?

7,500 km Service done. What a rip off. US$ 250 for an oil service. 1.6 hours labour because they have to check everything. Cabin filter replaced at US$ 87 for the part!! Oil cost US$ 100!!

I have this dealer, but they are the only dealers in the country.

Do the oil changes yourself man... WOW at that rate, save the extra money they want to charge you as a fund if anything goes wrong with the car. It doesn't look like keeping the warranty is worth such high cost maintenance.

Problem is warranty is lost. If you do not use them for every service every 7500km you lose the warranty. Currently having the argument since I have the shifter rattle but also an aftermarket headerback exhaust. According to the dealer technician this is the reason for the rattle, my exhaust. They do not want to replace the shifter even after I gave them the TSB!!

I understand, you are in a tough position. If I were you, I would sit down and add up how much is it going to cost me to take the car to the dealer to do every service, and based on that cost vs. the cost of doing the maintenance myself, I would decide if it is just better to do them myself, and save the money for any eventual mechanical problem the car might have out of warranty.
