TSB's performed

I had my car in for its second oil change, at 8k miles. I asked if there were any TSB's due on my car and the service adviser said "I'm checking that now", he read something on his computer and then said "No, doesn't seem to be any TSB's"

Is there a way to see if a TSB has been performed on your car?

It also took them an hour to change the oil the other day. Either they are extremely slow, or they were doing other things to it. I used to work at pep boys, and I could change oil in 2 vehicles at the same time while mounting and balancing a set of tires.

My oil changes tend to take about an hour too. A lot of those techs don't really get to see our cars, so when one comes in they generally like to check it out for a little bit.

Ive spent 3.5 hours on multiple occasions waiting for an oil change at a dealer with an appointment. If it wasnt free i wouldve raised hell

My dealer had never heard of taillight issues or window problems or second gear crunch issues either. Until I showed him the TSB numbers posted on this site. After that little awkward moment, we moved on.

Had to go in on Saturday to report the second taillight flooding, different service guy... had to start all over again from "Geeeezzzzz never heard of this problem..."

TSBs aren't "Due". The dealer will likely never volunteer TSB to you. The TSB is created and a VIN range specified. They are only performed if a customer complains about the problem in the TSB and it is verified by the tech to exist.

So do your research to see what TSBs exist and if you have the problem bring it to the dealer with a print out.

I haven't found a reliable source for TSB's. The government has a website, as does Edmunds, but neither seem to be up to date.

What do expect from the government-efficiency?

I think this site is your best bet

The Internal Revenue Service is highly efficient - the envy of the world.

Are you positing that the private sector is efficient? Rarely, in my experience.

I never take it to stealership for an oil change. except major work needs to be done under warranty

It was one of the free ones. I might as well take advantage of the freebies, since thats about the only free thing you get from a dealership... lol

Wrong forum for this, but since you asked:
Government has no incentive to be efficient- personal experience with IRS, VA, DMV, and governments TSB website. Private Sector is ALWAYS more efficient as they are incentivized to do so-personal experience.

You only have efficiency with competition. Private utilites and other quasi-monopolies (like cable companies) are pretty bad to deal with.

How can you mix theory (incentivization), with personal experience. You have skipped over the most important thing, empirical evidence. Private sector industries are rife with inefficiency, otherwise there would be no turnover. Why else do you think that WalMart vanquished Sears, Dell trumped IBM (in PCs). If you look at the top competitive firms of each of the past 10 decades, almost all of them have collapsed, been swallowed up, or have shrunk in size and importance. That's due to the fact that it is extremely difficult to be large and efficient over a sustained period of time. That is why industries almost inevitably focus their energies on limiting competition (through buyouts and mergers) or by asserting oligopolistc control over markets in other ways.

It is way too simplistic just to state that private enterprise is efficient and governments are not, it simply does not hold up under scrutiny.
