86 brake calipers

Got bored, never good with me........ Don't have installed pics yet, but I'm so excited I had to share now. Still in painting, my clear coat started making the paint run, wrong type :( that was my bad. Got a pic before it got bad. Gonna fix it and repost, good thing for winter :) let me know what you think. And I will post installed pics when I can.

that looks nice. put one back on so we can see what it looks like with the wheel... I really like this.
how long did it take you to do that. ?

Hardrock4445 02-11-2013 05:47 PM

About an hour to remove, prep, paint base color, half hour- hour to make stencil. 15 min to paint. Then I used a clear that was wrong and it ran. So I stripped it, did it all again. I got the right clear curing now while im at work. Wil post up pics later with wheel on. Car is in garage on stands so I will get the best pics I can. Garage is small.

Ok, here it is hanging. One without wheel and one with. can't get a pic any further back due to my garage. What ya think?

im those people who dont have the skill to take off the brake, what would you recommend i should do to paint my caliper? leave it on spray paint or leave it on brush paint?

Hardrock4445 02-12-2013 07:17 AM

Leave it on and brush it, spray will get every where. Just mask everything around it.

It's ridiculously easy. You just need a wrench set and a pair of vice grips to pinch the brake line (wrapped in a rag and not too tight so as not to damage the line). Un-bolt the caliper, paint, put it back on and bleed that caliper (read up on how to bleed brakes - painfully simple but you need a buddy to step on the pedal while you open and close the bleeder screw). You can do it on the car but make sure to mask everything else off.

Can't right now due to the size of my garage. Once the car is off jack stands and on the ground I will, but that will not be for a while I still have to put on stainless braided hoses and hopefully headers and exhust soon.

That kit crappy tire sells works real good. The brush on type. Just make sure to clean the caliper good and it last a while. Im probably going to do it myself with it too..prob just gray though.
