You can have the sensor disabled at the dealership. It's an ECU config option. I also had them turn off the Daytime Running Lights at the same time as it's just another config option.

our cars have very strangely tempered sensors for the passenger seat. At first I thought it was weight triggered... but I've once had 20 pounds worth of bags in the seat and nothing.. I then thing that it's heat sensored, I placed my charging phone on the seat and it would continue to go off.

As it says several times here it is not broken or an issue. The sensor is not a weight trigger it is an electrical field sensor. Anything electronic or dense enough will trigger it. The ovious answer is don't put such things on the seat.

Didn't read the thread all the way through... :bonk:

I guess I was late to the party.

Pretty common error when it comes to this subject.
Someplace on here there is a 400 post thread about it and approximately every 5th one says how the system works. Those are then immediately followed by 4 people wondering why their bag of cabbage/jug of milk/plugged in phone/dead hooker's severed head or what not weigh enough to set off the alarm.

Heh, my old piece of crap phone never tripped the sensor but my new one does.

Started to freak out when the chime came on, then recalled reading this thread.

l latch my seat belt(passenger) when i find myself putting my phone and other stuff on the front seat while driving so i dont have to deal with the sensor going crazy

Damn! I better remember that sets it off. Thanks for the "heads"-up!

Well if you hadn't had it happen yet then you are probably OK.
Shows who actually reads the whole posts though.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I started having this passenger seat-belt warning problem since yesterday. I plugged in the belt to stop the annoying beep, but I wanted to point out that I don't think the explanation in this thread holds true in every situation.

To be clear, I have no electronic devices on the passenger seat, in the glove box, in the cubby hole, or in the center console. I've never used the USB port. And my mobile phone remains in my left pocket when I drive. I even checked under the passenger seat to ensure nothing had fallen under there.

The only electronics change in my life recently is that I upgraded to the latest iOS version for my phone and enabled the Do Not Disturb feature for driving. However, I don't believe that could somehow cause the passenger seat warning to go off.
