DIY Automotive (Garage/Lift/Tool Rental)

I have a garage and tools but no room, no heat, and no lift.

My uncle built himself a massive shop that he's insulated and heated with all the tools and space one could need to repair, restore, or build cars and trucks. I use it frequently for brake jobs and regular maintenance BUT he doesn't have a lift.

So I just asked myself why someone hasn't started a business where you can rent a bay with a lift to work on your own car if you don't have the ability to do so at home. I've thought of this countless times over the years when a job came along that I'd LOVE to tackle myself but can't.

I just did a google search to find out where or how someone can do this. Found many many forum threads describing how folks have gone to local shops and negotiated the use of their facilities during a weekend or something along those lines.

And then I found it!

DIY Automotive located 10 minutes away from me in Meriden, CT

I'm so stoked! When I get my full Perrin header-back to install I'll be able to do it in no time.

One of the perks of being in the military is that most bases have a DIY auto hobby shop. Some charge a fee and some don't. Here in airstation cape cod it's free but you have to bring your own tools but atleast you get a warm place with a lift! Glad you found one and hope it's a good one!

That's where this guy took the idea from. He was in the military.

Hanscom AFB has a couple garages with full sets of tools. Anything you can think of and a guy there that helps you!

^^^ Yeah that's what I had available when I was in the army. The coast guard can't afford the nicer shops, lol

In case anyone is wondering up north. The Navy base at Kittery has a nice auto hobby shop. In the past I've also used "U Do It Autoworks" in Nashua. Both places are pretty awesome with very helpful people.

Aw man that's a bummer. It was just like a military auto hobby shop for everyone. The guy that ran it was pretty cool too, he was into all kinds of cars and would get you any parts you need for pretty deep discounts.

That's a cool setup, I always figured insurance would be hard to get to cover something like that.
