Auto transmission, really that slow?
Is the AT really about 1.5 seconds slower than the MT. I know it matters with the all-important driver mod, but is it really that much slower? Anyone have actual times and not car magazine times?
|
Slower off the line? Absolutely, but once your moving the AT is properly quick. Thanks to different gear ratios, and crazy quick shifts the AT can actually be quicker at certain speeds like 40-60 mph acceleration.
Edit: This may also depend on the driver. If your only mediocre with at shifting there is a good chance the AT might be just as fast for you. Those 0-60 times are set by people who really know what they're doing. |

And I'm by no means a good MT driver, so I would not see good times unless I really practiced for them.

yes the at is slower, just driving the manual for a few months and you'll learn how to be a good driver with it.

I've owned plenty of MT cars, and was worried I'd regret my choice to go with the AT, but so far I'm completely happy with it. I almost always drive using the paddles, but its nice to have the option to let the car do all the work. I certainly don't miss having to work a clutch when in stop and go traffic, or when driving in heavy snow.
If you want the absolute best performance possible out of this car get the MT, but if you just want a car that's a ton of fun to drive I think the AT can be just as good. |
Idk, I just can't justify spending nearly $30k for a car that takes about 17 seconds to go a quarter mile. I think I'll get used to the MT, but I just wish the AT had the same performance. It would be a no brainer then.
|
Like I said if your looking for max performance go with the MT if you think you'll be comfortable with it. On top of being faster you'll save a little money.
I'm happy with my AT, but its not for everyone. Don't forget there are always ways to make both the AT and MT faster. |

I imagine some rear end gears would go a good ways to closing the gap. If I had to do it over, I might go with an auto and 4.55 gears. At least this is a soft clutch, so the left foot doesn't get sore in stop and go traffic.

I may or may not have been used as a test car a couple of months back that may or may not make the AT unbelievable in possibly 2 months in which you will possibly have to spend $1500 but will blow your mind.

To the OP, I went with the AT because MPG. This car is my personal car (my work provides me with a car) so it's the one I take for long trips back to see the parents. If you're comfortable with a manual and want the max performance from the car then get the manual. I doubt you'll regret it. |
