After months of speculation, Toyota has finally confirmed that a TRD tuned version of the Toyota GT86 will be sold in the UK.

The Toyota GT86 has proved a huge hit among car enthusiasts since its launch last year. The new Toyota GT86 TRD will build upon that with a series of subtle modifications aimed at improving the car’s looks, and its suspension.

Just 250 examples of the GT86 TRD will be available, each equipped with design and performance features from TRD (Toyota Racing Development), one of the world’s most accomplished and successful after market engineering businesses.

On sale from March 1st, the GT86 TRD will be available with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox and in a choice of two colours: Pearl White and GT86 Black. On the road prices are £31,495 for the manual and £32,995 for the auto.

The TRD equipment package includes 18-inch cast TF6 alloys, deep front and side skirts, a rear bumper spoiler and a fast-response quad-exhaust system with a rear diffuser to increase stability. A TRD-branded radiator cap and fuel filler cover are also included, as well as a new TRD gear shift lever.

Acceleration and maximum speed are unchanged at 7.7 seconds for 0-62mph and 140mph for the manual and 8.4 seconds and 130mph for the automatic. There are slight changes in fuel consumption and emissions: 192g/km and 34.9mpg for the manual and 181g/km and 36.2mpg for the automatic (all figures official combined cycle).

GT86 is the first UK Toyota for which official TRD parts have been used to create a specific production model grade.

AWESOME...but once again in the U.S. we get the short end of the stick... lol

Sargy 02-08-2013 10:29 AM

Thats Sick. I would cry if It landed here. Oh well.

chulooz 02-08-2013 10:33 AM

Just some trims and rims, no biggie. Not a bad look with the retro wheels.

Tt3Sheppard 02-08-2013 10:36 AM

That and the posting about the $20k RWD toyota 5door hatchback rumor...

NemesisPrime909 02-08-2013 12:03 PM

of course, love for UK none for US.

Sport-Tech 02-08-2013 12:16 PM

Love the wheels, but that quad-pipe and diffuser combo looks silly on a car with no more power than the Kia Forte "station wagon" with the 1.6T. It shouldn't try to look like a Corvette. It's called "overcompensation".

And the new lower front end clip - no. Just no.

beesmiff07 02-08-2013 12:25 PM

Not worth 50k for...can make one cheaper then that

switchlanez 02-08-2013 12:26 PM

So the price of the standard UKDM GT 86 converted to US currency is around $39.5k USD and the TRD manual is around $49.8k USD. So $10.3k more for the TRD version and it doesn't appear to have the forged wheels, BBK, nor revised engine. The FR-S sells for $15k less than a standard GT 86 so let's say a TRD equivalent in the US would cost roughly $34.8k.

STI offers equivalent parts with similar prices compared to TRD so a BRZ STI version might cost around the same. I wonder if a comparably equipped BRZ STI for roughly $34.8k would be feasible in the US market.

tomato86 02-08-2013 12:27 PM

lol we don't even get HID's and LED's and the UK gets this. U.S. always gets the worst cars. Just look at that awful Mugen Civic Si we got, while the rest of the world enjoyed a Civic Type R. Evo X while others get FQ400. NSX Type R, Skylines, R35 Egoist, etc. Man oh man...

Saab2Frs 02-08-2013 12:30 PM

Cut the lights boys, it's boner time.

thts what i was thinking...i just looked at the WRX and compared its price jump to STI....If I'm gonna pay more then ill need a faster engine

tamsau 02-08-2013 12:35 PM

nice.

MannyO 02-08-2013 12:56 PM

Meh. From the back, the whole TRD theme is ruined by the lack of a TRD duckbill.

Oh and at the very least, the photographer (or whoever) could've taken an extra minute to clean the mud off of the side skirts and rear bumper...especially on a white car.
smh -_-

What hatch rumor? Got a link?!?!

LeeMaster 02-08-2013 01:09 PM

+$8,000 over the Scion FRS. The only good thing I see in this over the Scion is that its got the oem spoiler and an invisible rear diffuser and bigger brakes/rotors. Everything else is just, mehh.....

Don't advertise, just do it... It's that simple.

Zaku 02-08-2013 01:21 PM

Like everything else but the wheels : ) to each their own! :D

Just a thought....It seems like they are scared to make changes to the engine...I read that the BRZ STI wasnt gonna have a factory turbo and if so it would only give off +50hp...Im sadden

Toyota, please, I'm begging you, do not f**k this up!!

"While Toyota has been forthcoming about a future vehicle tie-up between itself and BMW, the assumption was that the co-developed car would be a flagship performance machine. These new rumors suggest the contrary; indicating that this new sub-FR-S may be the love child of the Japanese-German union."

johnnie 02-08-2013 02:23 PM

All that show and the same go, not that good for a "limited edition production model" with a halo brand badge. Can you imagine BMW releasing a limited edition BMW M320i only with different bumpers?

track_warrior 02-08-2013 02:26 PM

Hello,

I have seen in an older post where no holes were drilled and was mounted on the grill:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374893

But, I really like how the front license plate is mounted/pictured here. Personally, I would prefer something like this than mounting it on the tow hook or on the grill. Does anybody know where one can be acquired / what it's called?

cyde01 02-08-2013 02:38 PM

Huh surprised it doesn't come with the sf2's or the bbk. The new zealand trd does.

campy 02-08-2013 02:38 PM

I don't mean to come off as a hater or anything, but the only changes are exhaust, rims, and a body kit? They didn't even do suspension? For such a limited run car that they're putting the TRD name on, I feel like they're missing the opportunity to really show what Toyota is capable of doing with this car. 20 years from now, people should be looking at used 86s and saying "oh you should really go for the TRD model", but this just isn't doing it for me.

I'm not asking for a turbocharger and 300hp or anything, just make it noticeably better than the stock model when you compare them.

stockysnail 02-08-2013 02:43 PM

Only one word came to mind when I saw this... Meh.

I'm super Jelly!

Although, I prefer the JDM TRD Rims...

industrial 02-08-2013 03:34 PM

You guys are funny. Most people bought the scion version because it was cheaper and more available. This would probably be a few thousand more than the brz are even harder to find. 99% the same car at the end of the day too. If they are going to brand it TRD, why not give it the brakes, suspension bits and seats?

sol740 02-08-2013 03:51 PM

GT86 TheRicerDesign

OrbitalEllipses 02-08-2013 03:54 PM

No $10,000 TRD stamped Brembo GT-R BBK?

bdanisi 02-08-2013 03:59 PM

I'm sorry but if you pay that much for that car you are a sucker. And the quad exhaust tips? Seriously?.

I would cry as well only in my case, tears of joy. I could finally have the Toyota, with all the options and a bit extra from TRD, that I've wanted. To heck with the Scion strip down garbage.

See the link in my sig, the Toyota will have all those goodies that were taken out of the Scion.

You've never bought a TRD vehicle before, have you? My TRD Celica has a, supposedly, functional body kit and spoiler, same rims as the regular Celica GT-S (I switched to Volks on my own), interior colour inserts on the doors, seats, steering wheel, shift nob, and floor mats. Plus the TRD badge and TRD exhaust. Oh and a colour keyed manual wallet. That's it. That's how TRD does things. The Sports M Celica, I believe, was the only one to get the actual TRD performance parts, such as suspension, bars/braces, etc.

its still a hyundai... all reviews sugest that the genesis is more understeer prone, has a not so great gearbox, and doesnt have the best driving position.. but to each their own i guess.

It was a ride that I totally forgot about till someone mentioned it too me....we'll see...means more studying for me

naikaidriver 02-08-2013 04:43 PM

I'm sorry but as much as I love the looks of the thing, I have to waive the "big deal" flag.

It is cheaper to buy a base model and pimp it with better looking wheels, tires, and bits that actually contribute to performance than buy that car. TRD should have waited until they could make a special edition supercharged or turbo car before putting this out.

I think there would have been a LOT of people that would have just lined up saying "TAKE MY MONEY!!" for a TRD 86 that actually performed better than a base model.

Still... it really IS pretty!

Scott
