What is your pre-race schedule
How do you guys prepare for a AutoCross(or trackday w/e)? How far before the big day do you start preparing for that specific race? What kind of things do you do to the car, and yourself?
|
For autocross, I go to sleep a little earlier than normal.
For track days, I inspect the car on the lift, bleed brakes, change pads, etc. then load the car with everything I need, drive to the track the night before and get some more rest. For races (w2w), we do whatever we need to do to prep the car, load up a crap load of parts, get the trailer, load the car, drive whereever in the country we are going, drink. 8 hours bottle to throttle ;) |
Depends if you're already track-ready, or if you're frantically installing parts/making changes lol. Day before is a good day to check pressures, fluids, tightness, etc etc.
For drift: Typically I pack the afternoon before, load up the race car and support vehicle with wheels/tires, spare parts, FSM, majority of my toolbox, etc etc. Cars loaded by night, get a good night sleep...something I keep forgetting :P Have to get up stupid early to meet the Sikky group crazy early to be at the track a little early. Always leave extra time. |
most of my prep was mental. The day before was spent going over the turns, and calming any nerves i had about any part of the track. At the track, I would look check the car just like any other, even though I knew they had it good to go, just to clear my head of anything that could potentially take my thoughts off the next turn. 90% mental.

Aaah. Forgot to put that :P
Nowadays there's enough youtube vids of most tracks that you can do virtual runs of them |
For autocross, load crap in car (umbrella, snacks, water, helmet, jacket, numbers, etc.) the night before. I don't mentally prepare. I just arrive. Keep it simple.
