...but its $$$

Yep. It costs $399 for the full kit. Now, I like gadgets for my car, but this seems to be a complete waste of money.

Here is the site

Thats one folks what else?

And longhorn or someone knowledgeable does this electrical problem common? How much are FOB keys?

Im trying to complie againsts and for using mechanical and functional reasoning

The electrical system associated with a push button start has as much chance of failing as any other electrical system in the car. The only difference between the push button and a traditional key start system is that instead of a key and pin-tumbler locking system, which when turned electrically activates the starter, the lock is instead a sensor and key fob. The key fob is sensed by the car and then you can start it by pushing a button rather than turning the key to close the circuit.

The one negative with this cars push-button start in particular is it eats into smartphone storage space when plugging into the USB/Aux jacks. I wish they had put the start button somewhere else.

I don't believe that. Aftermarkets defintely have more room for failure. Hell I have not heard of one single person with a Prius having a problem. Second its usually covered by warranty.

Keyhole locks freeze, and fiddling with keys when its cold and windy sucks. The key never has to leave your pocket and you can still open any door or start the car, not a silly option for a DD. Not all premium options are fluff, calm down and think a little. Some people want these type options, they are not dumb because they do.

Yup, for a daily driver it's all about convenience, in addition to it being cool (which is a perfectly good reason to spend money on BTW). The system I'd want isn't the old S2000, turn the key then press the button. It would all be key-less.

And since the car was designed with it in place, I don't see the big deal with wanting it.

Failure shouldn't be that big of a deal though the "keys" are a bit more than your standard key. BMW's are $300+.

Convenience and/or luxury amenities such as push-button start are unnecessary for one to enjoy driving a car.

lol no one is answering OP just debating push starts and smart keys

yea I'm pretty sure there will be a aftermarket re-locator kit or hell someone will prob have a DIY up in the future

now about push start/smart key or regular key i don't really care whichever is cheaper

I agree...kinda.

Though, logically, if you loved driving so much then wouldn't you want the quickest way to get started?

ubersoph 12-12-2011 05:21 PM

Arm full of tires and track stuff, don't need to lock or unlock car manually. Nice at autocrosses.

Track day drivers who are in a firesuit, nice so you don't have to get the gloves off to try to grab for your keys.

Convenience when getting stuff from the store.

Winter.

Not really much here, but TECHNICALLY more weight lower to the ground having the key in your pocket instead of the steering column..

lol Im sure you like me and alot of people notice about the Push start thing being in like 5 threads because people can't seem to get a grip with it. And... the title of the thread and the actual first post... don't match lol it's actually alittle ironic.

I'm trying to see things from SCION's point of view on this, and more and more I think they are right.

They are trying to create a driver's car that's affordable. They turned the suspension differently to be more aggressive. They are trying to deviate from being the BRZ and the 86. The FRS is a totally new third variant, and if your trying to get then to give you an 86 I think your asking for something that is going against the principle that Scion is trying to do with the FRS "Bringing the Sport back into cars"

Honda Made the S2000 because they wanted to show the company's racing heritage and sportiness. The last thing on the engineer's mind was Luxury, they want to make a driver's car. And you can make the argument too that the Miata is a sports car with good luxury and I'm going to agree, but last time I check Miata with all those luxury start around 27k which is now BRZ territory... these things keep going in circle. All of the argument for the more better car would be plausible is SCION wasn't MONO spec. 2-4 trim levels would make it possible for everyone but... if that was the case they would of brought the TOyota 86 in the first place.

Last time I check Sport and luxury is in different categories... and I stand by this you can flame me and argue with me if you want but that's a fact. And to all the people that is saying that they want more and that it's not wrong to want that. You are also correct but, that's what a BRZ is for. This is SCION's S2000 not a LEXUS LFA.

Keep Up the good work SCION stick to you're Goal give us a good affordable driver car.

Mr.Jay 12-12-2011 05:41 PM

thats exactly what I'm thinking

if people on this forum got everything they wanted they would start complaining as soon as they heard the price! cause from what I've read people want all the lux but only think this car, the only RWD boxer, brand new engine, drivers car should only be priced at 22k

Not sure what about the post you referenced you were disagreeing with? He wasn't talking about aftermarket stuff at all. Oh and warranty does have a time limit.. if it breaks it likely won't be within three years anyways.

Very true.

On the same thread though, convenience and/or luxury amenities such as push-button start do not prevent one from enjoying driving a car.
