i personally never understood having both but to each their own.

Syldrin 12-12-2011 03:53 PM

my question about head unit placment got turned in to another push button start debate. i blame giccin.

Heres what i got from button push start from all these thread, they are useless hard to work with if you have to fix it and not even needed for the car to function.

People want it cause, either they like to push buttons,is too lazy or its cool.

Thats about the gist of it....

Is there anything significant mechanical functional reason for push start?

I hardly find its cool.... as a good sound reason..

Why? It's cool because you can have a spare key, and it doesn't cost a bajillion dollars to replace one, or get a copy.

But they have that without push start in the car, remote start is on a remote....which is great for warming up the car in winter. But that doesnt answer thequestion

The argument for against is much more then for...

So again whats so significant with push start? Mechanical and functional points please.

after looking at this picture i was thinking if you opted to get the gauge pod in place of the head unit do you guys think it would be possible to put a single din head unit in place of the little cubby. i know the shift lever would be in the way for CD's but i don't know many people who still use CD's anyways. please share your thoughts.

Yeah, that extra piece of plastic that makes the box smaller looks like it can be removed or if have to, dremel it off. Maybe scosche will offer a kit to relocate it there.

I'm ol skool, so I haven't confirmed to the whole push start era and glad that they didn't offer it standard. More manual stuff please!!

Keys have been use for thousands of years so I don't see them being phased out just yet. With key fobs costing several hundred dollars to replace, keys and locksmiths will be here for a little longer.

It eliminates the mechanical aspect of the lock and key on the steering column. However, as you already state, it opens up the door for electrical issues to become a problem down the road.

Push button start and a smart key type setup are not the same thing. If you live somewhere that has a serious winter a smart key is awesome. Keyhole locks freeze, and fiddling with keys when its cold and windy sucks. The key never has to leave your pocket and you can still open any door or start the car, not a silly option for a DD. Not all premium options are fluff, calm down and think a little. Some people want these type options, they are not dumb because they do.

The only reason I "want" the smart key is because it seems to be required (but that may change once real information on options and such is released) to get the seats that I want in the car. I have no actual desire for the smart key.. I guess you can be lazier with it.. I like being lazy.. but even I am not quite that lazy.

Remember everyone the 3 pre production prototypes are what we see right now. The two cars in the Usa and one in japan are not final as said from moto san in the other thread.

Im sure they'll listen to everyone with the most sound reasoning and deliver an affordable good car to us.

They dont have a choice, this is Scion lifeline. Let them work.

Well get a good car im 89 percent sure of it.

Dont let the reviews throw you off or convince you just yet.

Stay hopeful for a 22k car with lots of nice acc. And great performance/mpg that we all want.
