Steering wheel accent removal

I've seen a few people request the same thing on here, but they are usually asking for the removal of that part along with the other silver accent pieces within the car. As a result, all of the replies point to other DIY's for the door handles and center console, but the steering wheel is forgotten. So plz, anyone know how to do this, have pics, video? Anything? :iono:
Seems most of the parts just pry off with a little effort, but i dont wont to risk it without knowing if there is at a good part to start from, i.e: starting at the bottom for the door handles...Thanks Guys!!!

DO NOT pry it. it is held in by screws. you need to remove the airbag part to get to it. on either side of the steering wheel are two holes. in there are metal clips, you need to reach in there, push them in so the center part pops out. then pop that out VERY CAREFULLY and set aside. then you will see two screws holding the trim in, remove those and it will simply pop out.

here is a write up i found:

Before you do anything, let's remove the fuses so you don't piss anyone off honking the horn accidentally 50 times and/or screwing something up and blowing the airbag unintentionally. The fuses circled in red need to be removed, they are all horn related fuses and are also pictured on the fusebox cover diagram.

First you'll need to go the side of the steering wheel, there are 4 holes on each side but it's the bottom 2 you should be working on. There is a metal pin if you look inside the holes. You need to grab a screwdriver or something similar and push that pin inwards of the steering wheel, while simultaneously pulling the airbag. Do this to each pin on both sides and pull the airbag out, it is semi-difficult. Gave me a bit of trouble.

Now unattach the plugs from the steering wheel.

Now it is off the steering wheel

YOU ARE DONE REMOVING THE AIRBAG!

To remove the steering wheel there is a nut in the dead center of the steering wheel. Remove that and it should pop off. Or screw off. Not sure of the socket size though .

you can see the two screws holding it in place in the picture. hope this helps.

This is EXACTLY what i was looking for! Thank you Very much for the help, I'll be trying this tonight after work. Good to know about the fuses too, i'd hate to pop an airbag in my face. lol :bonk:

I did this last night, and i only ran into one problem... The write-up says that there are two pins that you need to push to release the steering wheel. One to the left and one to the right. There is actually a third one in the bottom of the steering wheel. It works the exact same way as the other two.
Also: just a side note, the three fuses listed are actually all for the horn, not the airbag. Just be careful and you should be ok. People pound on there horn during road rage and nothing happens so there really isnt much reason to worry, but it never hurts to be safe

So no need to unplug the airbag to just remove the trim piece right?

No. You just have to hold the center section of the wheel while you take out the two screws. Don't just let it hang by the wire.

Just adding, if you want to prevent the airbag from exploding, disconnect the battery before doing this.
