London Ontario Thread

I was just looking around and see theres no London thread and was curious to see if there were some others around town on here. Just hopeful I guess.

Pforwell 02-06-2013 05:24 PM

I'm living in the St. Kitts region for work, but I grew up in and frequent London about once a month.

Drive a Black 6MT FRS.

wbradley 02-06-2013 05:41 PM

Drifting EOA, eh? See ya at the Merlamae.

A5D5TRYR 02-06-2013 06:11 PM

I was actually thinking about starting a London thread. Thanks for doing that. I'm down around the south end mostly but I believe I've seen a Raven FR-S driving around on Wharncliffe a couple times. Saw a white BRZ in the fall but haven't seen it all winter.

There's another guy on here from London and I think his is Raven. Maybe he'll see this thread and chime in.
I'm a lot closer to Sarnia, but the London dealer is the closest to me. I'll be picking up my Ultramarine 6M from them soon.
Maybe see London folks in Grand Bend during the summer.

3_NA_HAF 02-06-2013 07:07 PM

Ive only seen another hot lava and a ultra marine by the south costco. I assume some are put away for the winter like mine :( I figured id start a thread, had to be some around.

A5D5TRYR 02-07-2013 06:02 PM

That Ultramarine down by the south costco is most likely me. I work down there in the industrial area and drive up Wellington to get home.
I know the dealer got in like four or five other ones around the time mine came in but as was said there are probably a lot of them sitting inside for winter. That wasn't an option for me as this is my daily driver. She gets to play in the snow. Made sure to opti-coat and oil spray it though.

Carefull with her tomorrow if you're going to work. Supposed to get shitty.
Did you do the opticoat yourself or is there a detailer in London that did it for you?

Yeah I heard it's supposed to get pretty shitty. I have snow tires on her luckily, put them on the stock rims.
I actually got the opti-coat done by Kevin at GTAInDetail in Mississauga. He was great to work with and did an awesome job. I've got a bunch of pics that I'm meaning to upload at some point. I keep meaning to start a journal to put all that crap in and just haven't gotten around to it.

Burrcold 02-07-2013 08:19 PM

I bought my BRZ from Subaru of London, AND my wife went to Western. Does that make me an honorary Londonite? :)

I'll accept that. I've had enough roundabout run-ins with your car. :) Are you in the London area much?

Burrcold 02-08-2013 12:42 PM

No I was only in London picking it up mid-October.

A5D5TRYR 02-08-2013 01:28 PM

So I was stupid enough to brave the weather today and actually made it to work. Yay! Actually the only trouble I had was going uphill on a back street before I could get to main roads. I think I need to get some weight in the trunk cause even with snow tires it seems to have trouble getting traction to go.
Other than that this car is performing rather admirably this winter. Thanks in part to the TC/VSC of course.

Pforwell 02-08-2013 04:59 PM

I went to work this morning as well. I find having a full gas tank helps with traction quite a bit. I am very happy with the TC/VSC though. It doesn't let the car get out of control too easily.

I'm from London. Grew up in the NW corner of the city by the Aquatic Centre. If anyone sees a raven with silver steelies over the long weekend, that could be me!

Good call! I didn't even think of that but I'm under a quarter tank at this point and that definitely wouldn't be helping my cause.

A5D5TRYR 02-13-2013 01:18 PM

Oh shit! I killed the thread. Sorry about that.

But seriously, anyone in the London area with an aftermarket exhaust? It's one thing to see a whole bunch of videos and crap but it would be nice to actually hear one or more in person to get a better feel for how they sound before dropping money on one.

Fever 02-15-2013 03:51 PM

Not dead yet!
Just got home from picking up my Ultramarine FR-S from Toyotatown today. So there was another one of those around London for a short while anyway before heading back to the shores of Lake Huron.
Didn't even turn the stereo on as I was driving, trying to get a feel for it. It was nice and tight, no squeaks or whistles going down the 402. Some tire noise but not bad.
Just happy the roads were fairly clear and dry, just got a little dirty.
Stopped in at buddy's shop and he approved so even old guys like the FR-S.
Going to wrap her up and wait for the better weather to get a few miles on her.
Have fun guys.

Congrats on the new ride. I got mine opti-coated and oil sprayed cause she plays in all the weather. Still need to get out to an empty parking lot in some snow to turn off the nanies and get a feel for her at the limit though.

Thanks for that.
I've been trying to think of places to go for a little fun after she's broke in. I watched the video from the vegas86club in the Gallery section, sure looks like fun!

A5D5TRYR 03-03-2013 12:33 AM

Saw a firestorm FR-S with silver rims at the Carpenter's Union Open House today. Looked nice and clean. Made mine look like shit in comparison cause it's quite dirty. Was funny though, I saw a family walk by it and stop and look and then walk a little farther through the parking lot and then see mine and point at it and talk about it too.

Kid to Dad: "Hey Pops there's another one! But it's dirrrty..." lol.

Since bringing mine home on 15-Feb, I've taken it out all of one time because of the weather. She's still pretty clean. Getting itchy to go though.

Not that every FR-S in London was bought at Toyotown, and not that every one they've sold has stayed in London, but when I picked mine up I asked how many they have sold. Was told less than twenty, so there must be a few out there.

Yeah, I think there were 4 others that came in at the same time as mine. I've only seen one BRZ here in London (white) and I started seeing it in the fall.

And that quote seemed like it was pretty close. Lol.

Ive only seen what seems to be yours, and one other hot lava like mine. Im starting to go crazy, hopefully another couple weeks and mine will be out of the garage.

On another note, anyone have theirs tinted through the dealer? I passed seemed expensive, specially since they outsource the work, any idea who they use? Or maybe a quality place to go?

Got my WRX done at tint king on wellington and they did a good job. I had no complaints. I was going to wait until the spring when it gets warmer out because the point of tint for the most part is to keep the interior cooler and right now that's not an issue.

I was also thinking about removing the rear deck when I take it in so that it's easier for them to do a good job on the back window.

I think I've seen the same hot lava that you have. I saw it at wellington and bradley.

3_NA_HAF 03-04-2013 12:33 PM

Ive heard of them before, maybe Ill give them a shout and see what it will cost. See if they remove the rear deck when they do it.

A5D5TRYR 03-04-2013 02:00 PM

My WRX ran about 200 bucks I think but that was with two extra windows and doing a sunstrip. It was awesome on that car but I don't know if I'll be doing the sunstrip on this car yet or not. (3 or 4 inch strip at the top of the windshield)

3_NA_HAF 03-04-2013 07:11 PM

Im sure Toyota Town was well over that. Was the sunstrip just heavy tint on the inside?

A5D5TRYR 03-04-2013 08:41 PM

I believe the levels of tint they offer are 35, 20 and 5 (%). For 35% that means it will let 35% of the light hitting it through. So 5% is like limo tint and is dark as hell. On my last car I got 20% on the two front windows, 5% on the rear side and back windows and then a 20% sunstrip. I have to say it was nice when driving in the sunrise or sunset scenario where the sun was coming in the top part of the windshield. Made a big difference. And it didn't hurt that it looked pretty badass.

RedFR-s 03-05-2013 07:30 PM

I just bought a Firestorm 6MT in Guelph and will see it in May, but I'm moving to London around then too (workin in Woodstock fiancee going to Western).

Congratulations. I'm sure you will enjoy it immensely. Any plans on modding the car?

No tint, and wear some polarized Ray-Bans

Sunglasses with a sunstrip makes the sunrise and sunset even better. As for the rest of the windows unfortunately sunglasses don't keep the interior of the car cooler in the summer.

And, tint makes pretty much any car just look better.
I got 20% done with the dealer. I know they source that out, but I don't know to who. Maybe it's in the pack of papers I got with the car, I'll have to have a look.

Plan on wheels tires and a big break kit to start. Maybe a subtle aero kit but definately a rear deck spoiler. Plan on using it as a track car at some point. when powertrain warranty runs out then I'll start on the engine.

Fair enough. If you're going to order wheels and tires from the states you might want to look at shipping them to the Sombre ferry near sarnia. It ships to a US address (which drastically reduces shipping charges) and they bring it across on the ferry. You just pick it up on this side, clear customs and you're home free. I've done it twice now and both times I only got charged HST, no duty. They charge 5 bucks per package so it's 20 bucks for 4 wheels with mounted tires.

Thanks for the tip I'll look into that.

The salesman at the dealer called me last night... for no known reason I guess, was kinda strange. Hes a nice guy, mostly to tell me they were still working on a track day, and he'd let me know when it was going to be. Anyways, he had also mentioned that one of his customers had put on a full greddy intake and exhaust kit, didnt really say much else about it. Maybe catch it around town sometime?

Now that you mention it I think my sales guy mentioned that to me as well. He also told me about the track day they were arranging, which I thought sounded pretty cool. I would be on-board with that for sure.

Who was your salesman, if you don't mind me asking?

3_NA_HAF 03-08-2013 01:46 PM

I delt with Peet, super nice guy. Seems like a big car guy too, which I like. Nothing worse than dealing with someone thats just there to collect a paycheck. Ill definately make it out for the track day, hopefully hear something about it soon.
