Fastest 86 in the world!

Ok, so I think I may have the fastest 86 in the whole world!!!
All I keep reading about on the forums is how slow the 86 is. Now that I've finally run in, I'm loving the power, it's just so useable.
Ok so maybe it's not as quick as a golf but then the golf isn't as quick as an rs5, which isn't as quick as a Porsche turbo, you get the picture.
Seriously though, am genuinely happy with the amount of power the car has, I feel it's perfect for the car. Around town I leave everyone for dead at the lights (admittedly havnt had an actual race yet to test it, but not that into that anyway).
I know the yanks will always say it needs more power until it has a v8 but what do you guys think?
It really does feel quick, am I the only one? Or does my car have secret factory mods

I agree! After LOTS of test drives, BRZ / 86 feels more fun than my Golf 5 GTI even at reef due to handling.... GTI felt great till I drove these!

Tell you something... I had delight drilling a GTI today... Ok I was coming up at speed from behind I saw the GTi drop a gear, I pulled to the left lane hit the gas and GTi just hang on...
Maybe not fair and real, but I did and the oke in the GTi pulled up next to at the robot and said he never knew the 86 was that quick.
The works filter and Zeta pipe is really awesome.... Going to definitely dyno, cause I need to prove its not in my head...:burnrubber:

There is a huge discrepency in the 0-100 times posted in different reviews. Some say 6sec and others quote the factory 7.4sec.
I know all about the change into 3rd gear argument, but that doesn't account or a 1.5 sec difference unless your gear changes are seriously slow!
Has anyone manage to time an actual run with torque or at a strip or anything? Particularly at altitude. Might make for some interesting reading.

Does it really matter what the true 0 to100 is? We all know that the 86 is not that car.
Not being sarcastic or anything, we bought the car for fun driving and you can push this, baby to its limits.
As reviews put it. The 86 has the power and speed to be pushed to max, not power and speed that can't be used.

Agree 100s just think it would be interesting. Like I said, all I've heard is that the car needs more power and is so slow (probably mostly from people who havnt even driven it). But the reality is quite different, not only is it brilliant fun, but in reality is pretty quick as well.
Also agree that prob the best part is that you can use the power and use ALL of it!
My new favourite game is to just touch the throttle and make little induction growls, especially around longer bends.

PS Kudos for the gti race :)

i do that all the time too, I love that sound...:brokenheart:
and at the same time, you feel a little shove in your back as if the car is asking you: can I, can I? and then you have to tell it , not yet...

serious case of puppy love i tell you... :P

For the average Joe this car has enough go-go.

Vic_RSA 02-07-2013 02:34 AM

I started out being critical about the mid-range power delivery etc. but I have to say these cars do have the go to match the show. We shouldn't be racing against the turbo hot hatches of today anyway (or on the streets at all :D or that matter)

With nearly 8000km I can say my car has begun to settle nicely and it is properly rapid and even the fancier cars are scared to have a go. The magazines said that 86 is happier playing on its own than with the others... I think we are driving a future classic...

It's pretty damn quick. The first thing that people look at are the 0-100 times quoted in reviews, and think that it's slow. The issue is that you have to shift into 3rd before hitting 100, so it could have been a few tenths quicker. Once you're in 3rd, it rockets toward 140 - and I'm willing to bet that in the real world, where 0-100 times are irrelevant, a dual between a GTI and an 86 will be a lot closer than most think.

Vladror 02-07-2013 04:28 AM

agreed, that 3rd gear is perfect in real life situations. Last night on the drive home from work the lanes just cleared on an uphill stretch of the N2 (hospital bend) and that engine just climbed into the revs, getting more and more power. Such great rev range and sound. Love it.

So Mr Geetee86, when are you adding some boost under the hood? Your ST was hell of a quick. Was actualy in the speed and sound magazine - The Punisher

GeeTee86 02-07-2013 04:42 AM

Small world Rue hehe
We'll see what TRD comes up with (if)

Are you sure she won't do 100 in 2nd gear? I may be wrong but Car magazine calculated a full 100 in 2nd didn't they? On the redline but possible. That was a notable problem with the 6-speed Corolla RXI as well compared to its 5 speed predecessor.
