Exhaust and Intake, the $1000 Question

As the title states I am preparing to purchase a cat back exhaust and an air intake of some sort for around $1000. The question is since I am buying both at about the same time are there any that go "hand-in-hand" one that compliments another perfectly? Also I am aware that there are issues with bogging and lack of power when adding one or both of these mods. I DO NOT PLAN ON USING A TUNE. With that said are there any intake and exhaust combos that do not have these issues? So does anyone have a suggestion, personal experience, advice? And fyi, I prefer a deep sound for exhaust not ungodly loud.

The tune is a better mod than both intake+exhaust combined.

Invidia N1, aFe dry can be had for around that $$$ if you look I think. I got in on the early groupbuys.

Right now have above plus Invidia front pipe with high flow cat and Perrin crank pulley.

Dyno'd @Evasive Motorsports last weekend at 176WHP w/o a tune on 100 octane and an AT.

if you're not getting a tune. best way to achieve power gains is by a drop in filter

check out WORKS products. pretty sure it will fit your needs

In short, if you can't afford a tune...

Maybe you should spend the cash on suspension/brakes or other mods.

On the flip side, if you want MAX gains for MIN cost, buy a berk or nameless muffler delete (Check the thread here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22727 to see the berk muffler delete that cost $150 dyno more than any other cat-back tested) , and a drop in filter ($50) - that should cost you $200. Spend the $800 you save... ON A TUNE!!!

I got the injen intake and greddy evo 3 exhaust, the intake alone will give you that minor bogging issue until the ecu learns how to read it. Combined the two and I no longer have any issues. The evo3 exhaust has the best deep throaty sound and is loud but if you keep the silencers on then it is very quiet unless you WOT.

Which one would you guys prefer? Nameless axel back or Works? Im looking for a louder exaust but cat back would abit too much for me since im getting several other things too~~!!

I went with injen intake and Perrin headerback. Wouldn't have it any other way. Some sound clips in my car journal.

To all those talking about him getting a tune: you don't know what the OP is doing with his car. He said he doesnt want a tune so that should be that.

If I had to say something though, it would be to skip the intake.

Off topic--- I have to hear the Evo 3 in person when we have a springtime meet.

I am in the same boat as you I want to do a drop in and exhaust but no tune to not void my warranty.

So far it hks drop in filter and either nameless or speedfactory exhaust, Its a debate. Was also eyeballing the perrin intake tube only.

Keep us posted on what you get.

I've got the K&N drop in with the Nameless exhaust if you want to hear it in person sometime.
