Quick Question

Can I use this in my differential and transmission? They (amsoil) recommends the severe gear for the differential but I dont plan on using the car more as a daily driver with some track/autox, so i dont think it will be really "severe" conditions. So, I am thinking this should be fine. Thanks.

I would use AMSOIL MTG for the Trans but not for the diff...Like Dano said Motul Gear 300 will be awesome for the diff.

While I totally agree, it (a) seems like overkill for my uses as daily driving with a light bit of track/autox use, and (b) is much easier for me to justify it to the wife if I keep it under $100 overall (add in brake fluid to the Motul package here somewhere and it comes out over such, but I can get Amsoil for under $100).

Amsoil recommends Severe Gear for the differential because GL-5 is specced for it. Whether you're going to the track or just going to the grocery store, your differential needs the additional 30-50% levels of Extreme Pressure additives that a GL-5 has over a GL-4 oil like Amsoil MTG. You can skimp on brand, but do not skimp on specs.

Thanks Dennis. Thats really what I was looking for, a reason behind things that I havent really been able to dig up well in other places.
