Karting

Hi everyone!

Just wondering if there were any active karter's here. I used to be a big, big fan of karting. Attended many sessions at Moran Raceway, was active at ekartingnews, friends with Joel Miller (went to the same undergrad) but eventually stopped when priorities changed. That was some 4 years ago. Now I'm looking to get back into it. Snooping around shows the Cal State championship with a Birel R31 and Rotax is the way to go around here.

Any other nuts out there? :D :happy0180:

I would go for it if I had any places nearby. It's definitely a lot of fun.

You welcome. It is less than 20 mins from my house in Westchester. It is a must place to go.

I've raced at Victory Lane in Charlotte, NC before. http://victorylanekarting.com/ I'd love to do it far more often, but it gets expensive. When I was much younger I went to the track out near Norway, IL several times too. And then there's the lesser karts at amusement parks and such, which don't require safety gear.

I've done @ Boomers. I wanna go to the huge one right next to the track at West Palm Beach International Speedway. I'll go at next years' Formula Drift event.

Super super fun

Right here! Nothing serious but learning the basics at K1Speed. Also have driven in the slick track at Speed Zone.

I've done some karting too, primarily at Kart2Kart, an indoor track with spec single-speed karts. Nothing noteworthy in terms of competition, but still have a good chunk of seat time under my belt. It helps keep me fresh during the HPDE off-season here in snow country.

Cool. I've never actually been to Speed Zone. Pass by it almost daily on the 60 though. There's Adams Motorsports park in Riverside. I haven't been there in a couple of years but the place is a dump. However, it's outdoors and the karts aren't electric so nobody to slow you down if they feel you're being too competitive (I'm looking at you Pole Position!!) And apparently they offer drift nights on a weekly basis for a cheap price.

I co-drove a F125 shifter kart in SCCA autocross last season (hopefully will again next year). The kart owner also participates in enduros on road courses (I want to, but haven't made it a priority over car racing).

FWIW, the indoor places (even the super awesome place in NY) don't hold a candle to the kind of karting the OP is talking about. I participate in enduros at a place in DE (Mid Atlantic Grand Prix) and race at another indoor place in Allentown (Lehigh Grand Prix)...while fun, exhilaration, and exhausting, they are far tamer than running a Rotax or shifter kart.

Awesome video from SKUSA SuperNationals XV.
