Why are ISS wheels so expensive?

I have never heard of this brand till a couple months after I got the car. For these

I was quoted $4700 after a 10% discount!! Is there something I don't know about their wheels?

ebphoto 02-02-2013 02:42 AM

its a custom ordered forged wheel.
seen a few pictures around but nothing else on them at all really..?

OjiGeorge 02-02-2013 03:15 AM

That wheel is... wow!

CircuitJerk 02-02-2013 03:31 AM

They look nice but delicate.

ASSALBERT 02-02-2013 06:07 AM

pretty, yes, but they're still overpriced wheels utilizing inferior forgings and barrels that they dont even manufacture themselves, pretty much like all the other overpriced multi piece "forged" wheels you see out on the market today. Go with a true mold forged wheel from the likes of BBS or Rays (Volk Racing) and you cant go wrong.

because race car.

I know it's not the quite as pretty and not exactly the same, but if you're looking for a similar design, TSW just came out with a couple of new wheels. They have 5x100 fitment, 18x8 +35 available. 19 too if you want to go extra large.

edit: Oops, forgot. This one is called the Jerez. It's part of their rotary forged line.

Because as P T Barnum said there is a FOOL born every minute! NO WHEEL IS WORTH ANYTHING CLOSE TO THIS PRICE. (I can get FORGED MAGNESIUM center lock racing wheels cheaper) But stupid people will buy them just to show everyone how much respect money "and good taste" can buy you!
off soapbox end of rant.

That one isn't rotary forged actually, haven't seen the weights either but i like them also.

adprokid 02-03-2013 10:07 AM

Nice lineup of wheels, but I wonder what kind of weights and strength they offer for that price ?

Damn, you're right. I must've gotten them confused with another model.

In short, it's become popular lately for "boutique" wheels for people with a lot of money who don't really want anything other than good looking wheels for a high end car that they can brag about...

Out of this you see companies like ISS, Iforged, ADV1, etc.

The wheels that were around 5-10 years ago (or longer) are the brands I'd look at, if you want race-worthy forged wheels... CCW, HRE, RAYS, BBS, etc.

That being said, I run cheap street wheels because if they get crubed its cheap to replace and I don't think people are as likely to steal them. So I run BBS LM replicas from ESM wheels, called the "004" model wheel in 18x9.
For race I run Enkei RPF1s as they're light and cheap and come in 17x9.
If I had crazy money I'd run CCW classics probably.

*edit* - My opinion is, unless you have a ton of money (which if so, why not buy a Lotus Elise? lol), or are trying to win car shows, but whatever is cheap and light to race on... and buy whatever you like to LOOK AT most for street.

On BBS and forged... Just the other day I looked at the BBS German website (which BTW was quite underwhelming I found), and I walked away with the impression that none of the BBS wheels are forged, but are cast with flow-forming technology. They are Made in Germany, however.

CAVEAT: Since I am not a wheel expert and only studied their website, do not take my word for gospel!

Also I could well imagine that BBS do have forged wheels for racing teams. But the generally available street car wheels I thought they are not really forged like says Rays Volkracing. I think Volk is still the gold standard when it comes to "forged".
