They used to grow bamboo through a person as a form of torture. I doubt teething is much different, other then the fact that it's only through a thin piece of flesh and it's slower.

They tested it on Mybusters too to see if it was possible. The results were gruesome.

As to the picture, this only gives more questions than it answers. Why are we born this way anyways? What purpose does it serve to have two sets of teeth and not one from the beginning? I wonder why they come in that way.
