People may laugh at this but I was quoted from two places $231 for 03 WRX STi space saver... (they clear bbk.)

000 Racing 02-07-2013 07:53 AM

yes but that is a 10 year old tyre... not going to be too good.. just pay the extra 20 and have a new 2013 :)

I will be putting them on ebay soon and I suspect they will walk off.... I am sure you cant buy a mag for that ... ($250) and you get a tyre that matches ... a matter for your consideration .. I would not rely on a ten year old tyre that is limited to 80kph anyway ...

You dont have a flat boot if you put in a full size spare... That's the whole reason for going space saver over a full size wheel

Gums 02-08-2013 01:36 AM

Ideally I'd like to just get a skinnier wheel/tyre, if thats possible?

One that will keep the same rolling diameter so it can fit the rear as well as the front.

If not available, a space saver will have to do and I'll get this from the states.

Have you had a look at the slight dip in an 86 boot ... I defy any metal or ally space saver to give you a flat boot unless you pack up the surrounds... it's only 75mm deep

Zangetsu 02-08-2013 08:11 AM

I'm selling the compatible space saver and boot mat in this thread. :)

Space saver fits under the flat boot in the september onwards 86's, just like it does in overseas markets.

Cool :)

86 gts 02-14-2013 10:46 PM

US market cars come with 135/80 16 inch 5x100 space saver
The rolling diameter is almost identical to 135/70 17 inch, which would be appropriate if you are upgrading the brakes
I am trying to import a US spare but may end up getting a second hand Subaru spare

Any idea of how much these are in the states?

I contacted Scion in the US & they would not sell the FRS spare overseas
I gave up trying to get one from the US
Instead I bought a 135/70 17 inch 5x100 spare from Cardiff Automotive in Newcastle
As above, it has the same rolling diameter as the FRS OEM spare
I was also given a Subaru OEM plate/bolt to hold down the spare
All up cost was $150 after bargaining
They have 3 left if you're interested
I'll post pics in the next few days

I'm not sure it will clear the front brakes on our cars. Also $150 is a bit steep most wreckers I scouted sold them for $80-100. Maybe it was from a newer car.

I wanted a spare that would clear brembos so I bought a 2004 STI space saver for $50 from ebay, redirected it via shipitto for $8 since the ebay seller didn't do international shipping. Through TNT it was about $90 or something.

You should never be mounting a space saver on the front. If a front tyre goes flat, swap a rear tyre onto the front and put the space saver on the rear.

Maybe on a front drive car that's true, but not necessarily the case on RWD

Putting one on the back is not even an option for me (turbo). On the front will lengthen the braking zone but at least the car will stay facing the right way.

My understanding is that due to the LSD the space saver cannot be fitted to the rear?

I have a Subaru WRX STi 17" space saver (2006) - it's never been used and it is the same height as my !8" works emotion wheels with Pirelli 235/40/ 18 PZero's. Doesn't matter where you put the spacer saver on your car as you are limited to 80Km (50 MPH). I purchased the wheel and tyre plus the bolt and ring for $100.00 from Subaru Used parts , 88 Levensdfale Road Moorabbin. To keep my boot flat I have cutout a piece of heavy duty Plyboard and added Foam rubber on the spare wheel side and my boot floor is once again pefectly flat. Also the puncture repair kit sits inside the space saver spare wheel. Problem solved. :happyanim:

have you tried fitting the wheel? a 2006 STI is 5x114x3 PCD

Yes, I have and it fits - it is a 17" space Saver with
5 x 100 stud pattern. I was told that 2000 up t0 2006 space savers were 5 x 100. I tried the wheel on my car before I purchased it.

JP 02-27-2013 04:22 AM

then it's not a 2006 STI spacesaver ;) they went 5x114.3 after 2004 for the better hubs/wheel bearings

THEN MAYBE IT'S A 2004 - Certainly doesn't look that old - tyre looks brand new. - could it be just a WRX space saver - I was told that after 2006 the wheel would not fit.:)

What’s the difference between a wrx and wrx sti spare ?

Bodalenko 06-18-2020 10:07 AM

I have a 125/70/18 off an A3 Audi that fits the 86 and is the same diameter as My 245/40/18. As for putting a SS wheel on the front of a car; that’s just putting yours and other roads users lives in danger regardless of the speed Rating. 80% of braking and 100% of steering is done thru the front wheels.
