Passenger weight sensor faulty?
 

Last Monday I set off for class 45 miles away and the car ran normal as usual. Nothing at all in the passenger seat. After class I hop in to go home, bong bong bong, wtf? So I clip the seat belt as there really isn't anything I could do. Once I get home I figured if it happens again then ill have it looked at.

Fast forward to this morning, on my way to work I toss my tablet(maybe 1 pound) on the passenger seat and start to leave, bong bong bong....really?

So my question, is there anyway to easily reset the weight sensor or should I take it in?

Mine does the same thing when I put my iPhone in the front passenger seat. Depending on where I place the phone it'll freak out.

Maybe they can adjust the weight settings if you take it in?

I wonder if its possible to "rewire" the little wire that goes to the seatbelt latch to trick it into thinking its always latched.

Not necessarily better but easier yet, you can go on eBay and buy just the male part of the belt and stick it in. I sold some wheels to a guy on NAZIOC and he said he had them since he doesn't like wearing his seatbelt. I don't condone that but if its just for the passenger seat when no one is in it I see no real issue. Maybe someone else can chime in on the legality of it on the event you have an accident and that airbag is deployed with no one in the seat.

The BRZ and FR-s use a newer system called Electrostatic Capacitance Sensor ODS, Which is designed to detect the electrostatic capacitance of a person who is large enough to safely use the front seat and enables the airbag and seat belt warning. This new system does not use weight to detect a passenger. Unfortunately ODS can triggered by electronic devices.

That doesn't explain why it bonged at me on my way home from class though. Maybe I had my phone sitting on it and didn't realize.
