DGM BRZ Limited

I bought this BRZ from Infiniti of Tysons Corner after member OMNOM traded it in for something more powerful. It had 67xx miles on it when I picked it up 1/20/2013 and I plan on driving it for 25,000+ miles per year. OMNOM also already installed an aFe Takeda intake so it sounds nice and makes slightly more buttdyno power than stock.

Mods so far have only been minor cosmetic things: LED interior lights, LED license plate lights, and STI leather/aluminum shift knob - all from my old 2008 STI that I sold today (1/26/2013). I don't plan on doing anything drastic to the car :iono:, but I will be either replacing the stock summer tires with all seasons or getting new wheels and all season tires.

The dealership installed a license plate bracket (stupid holes!). I already had the Grimmspeed bracket on order!

Congrats and welcome!

Got the following on order:
Grimmspeed license plate relocation
LED reverse lights

Got in today:
Shark fin antenna

infinite012 02-03-2013 06:51 PM

Installed:
Grimmspeed hood dampers - easy install. Video instructions were great. Installed in less than 30 minutes.
VG Shark fin antenna - easy install. Didn't read the directions and I didn't heat up the roof before pressing down on the fin, so it might fly off when I go to work tomorrow...

Not modding the car lasted long...

Update time? I really am not satisfied with the VG sharkfin antenna. It doesn't seat well to the roof and kind of looks goofy-big. I may take it off in the future and move the antenna base to inside the cabin and install a low profile cap, a la @Beyer Subaru.

New sidemarkers are installed. Thanks to @nigel-jdmparts!

It's got a kind of blueish hue to the smoke when they're not lit, but overall I'm pleased.

Sitting in my garage are RCE yellow springs and Whiteline camber bolts. Those will go in when I have more free time, probably after July's trip to Korea...

Oh yeah, I also rolled over 15,000 miles yesterday, so I'm halfway to trading the car in . My attention span with cars is remarkably slim. I changed the oil and filter to Eneos 0w-20 and an OEM Subaru filter from Fred Beans Subaru (got the 6 pack to save a couple bucks in the long run).

Love, love the smoked markers!

infinite012 05-18-2013 06:09 PM

Thanks! I was debating between the clear and the smoke, but decided smoke would look better on the DGM. If I had a SWP or SSM I might have ended up with the clear, though.

Decided to fix that stupid sharkfin antenna - I pulled the headliner down at the rear of the car enough to pull the giant nut holding the OEM antenna to the roof. Disconnected the OEM antenna, then pulled the wiring and antenna base off of the roof. I decided to not chance getting any weird rattles from the antenna and wrapped it in Ensolite, then shoved it between the headliner and roof, reconnecting the wires and connecting the VG sharkfin antenna to the OEM antenna base. Now the sharkfin antenna can sit anywhere I want it to sit and not have any weird gaps caused by poor quality of the sharkfin. I can also choose to use ANY antenna cover I wish to use.

PICTURES! Since nobody wants to read that wordfort.

No more antenna:

OEM antenna base:

This is where the giant nut (not pictured) would thread on to:

All ready for permanent sticking to the roof:
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X...65-no/IMAG0018

You can kind of see the Ensolite through the hole in the roof:

Lining it all up:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-r...65-no/IMAG0020

Done:

I decided to place the sharkfin antenna closer to the rear of the roof than before (picture is in post #4) and I am really liking it. The entire antenna now makes contact with the roof, whereas before only half of the antenna was touching the roof. Much better aesthetics.

I was tempted to just leave the OEM antenna disconnected since I rarely ever use the GPS and never use the radio, but for the sake of completeness and in the off chance that I do use the GPS, I have the option.

So, holding off on installing the RCE springs didn't last. I have a bunch of free time this holiday weekend (not working on (this) holiday! holy crap!) and my wife didn't say no to me when I asked if I could have some me time :)

Pro-tip: the Whiteline camber bolts are SPC camber bolts. The QC isn't that great and the lock tab/washer was tilted oddly on one of the washers, making it difficult to seat. Then there's the problem of SPC using 2 different hex heads - 21mm nut and 18mm bolt (approximate sizes, since I was actually using a plumber wrench on the "18mm" bolt head). Why oh why can't you guys just use 2 of the same size hex heads so I can use 2 19mm box wrenches like a good grease monkey!?

Pictures tomorrow? Maybe? Idk.

What stats are those lights? Ive been trying to look for the same bulbs.. Could you possibly paste a link? :bonk:

infinite012 05-31-2013 09:12 AM

They're a hodge podge of LEDs from various sources. But the run down on the types of bulbs used:

2x 194/168 license plate lights
2x 194/168 door puddle lights
1x 194/168 trunk light
1x festoon panel for map light
2x whatever the reverse lights are - I got these from a vendor here. I think I overpaid for what they are, so I won't name the vendor.
