I guess I'll embarrass myself with this question. But does going to 18 inch rims maker your speedometer reading inaccurate? I just remember that when I had my Mustang guys would have to report what non stock tires and rims they were using to their tuner, so their customer tunes could compensate for that.

If you browse around in the autox/track forum, you'll see a lot of guys running 17x8. It seems to be a nice compromise between weight and width. Most people don't go with 18" unless they have a big brake kit.

Good question. Your speedometer will not be off that much as long as you go with a lower profile tire. The diameter of the tire is the important number, not the wheel diameter. As long as the old and new tire diameters are similar, then your speedometer will still be relatively accurate.

Change the tires if you know what your doing, if you don't know what your doing then leave it stock.

We all know that the tires that come on it completely suck. The biggest reason why they are used is because they allow the driver to break traction a bit easier. After all this car was built with drifting in mind.

I think for 99.5% of the people doing daily driving these tires are just fine. That said, when it comes to replacing them I'm going with a stickier tire.

Just about every tire seller has a section somewhere on it describing how to upgrade your wheels/tires using what they call +1 or +2 etc.

The trick is keeping the overall diameter of your new tire to be the same as the old one. It's that simple. Discount tire for example tells you the overall tire diameter right there for every tire they sell for every size.

I like the stock tires. True, they don't have a whole lot of friction, but they communicate beautifully and predictably. If I were involved in motocross, I would want something different, but for driving on asphalt in a reasonably sane way, these tires are the best standard tires that I have experienced.

Did they stick with 215 width?

Since they used 18x8 rims, I'm guessing they bumped up width (maybe to 235? it would have been nice if they specified in the article)

The best stock standard tires I have experienced were the stock 275 width tires on my Nismo 370Z.
