Casting Defect Sandwich Plate
1 Attachment(s)
I noticed this right after I bought the vehicle when I changed my oil at 500 miles. I have changed the oil 2x since and now at 5000 miles, I have noticed it getting worse.
I don't see it causing any major issues, just kind of surprised it made it through QC. Do you any of you have this casting defect in the oil sandwich plate? |
Looks like porosity to me. You can get that with aluminum castings based on a variety of factors. While porosity can end up in a harmless location, what would worry me is if it is getting worse.
Is it REALLY getting worse, or are you imagining things? Did you measure it (believe it or not a factory would have a size spec on the porosity)? Can you confirm your theory? Back when I worked at a factory I saw lots of parts with porosity go out the door for auto-transmissions (once confirmed to be of no concern), but I've never seen it "get worse." |
