Why are there still so few TRD parts available?

The car has been out 6 months...

I remember the tc/xb/xd all had more parts available at the time of release than the FR-S has as of today. Wheels, intake, shocks, springs, strut bar, all were available for these very quickly after their releases. When I search trdsparks.com, there are very little things available for this car.

This is suppose to be Scion's "Halo" car and seems like its being neglected imo.

Possibly b/c it's not really Scion's car?

I mean the MSRP of the FR-S is a whole level above the rest of Scion's offerings. I wouldn't expect it to behave like the other cars in Scion's lineup.

Just my .02

Likely because of a few factors.

1. Its a somewhat "novelty" car to begin with, so to keep demand up they limit releases of cars/parts/accessories

2. Its a entirely new platform so R+D for oem quality go fast goodies takes some time. Remember, if the oem sells and installs it then it must meet warranty reliability or they loose their shirts on the services.

I thought there was a axle back exhaust, springs and sways out for our car under the TRD name already? At least... there's rumor and pictures.. are these bits not getting to dealers? Or your local dealer just not ordering them?

That makes no sense. The xb/xd weren't "Scion's" cars and they all had more trd parts available.

What does MSRP have to do with the availability of oem performance parts??? There appears to be TRD parts available in Japan and the car cost quite a bit more there.

Seriously Scion? You can't provide basic mods like springs, shocks, strut brace for people who want to keep their car "oem-like" and have no issues with warranty in the future?

Because they aren't necessary imho.

TRD USA is really sucking. There are tons of TRD parts for the FR-S, but they are sold in Japan. I think TRD and Scion are both dropping the ball.

I've only seen the TRD axle-back avilable in the USA. I have seen other parts that appear TRD Japan like coilovers, bbk, wheels, interior pieces, etc.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's seeing this. When I bought my xB back in 2007 ('08 model), it had all TRD parts available at that time.

TRD usually isn't ramped up with the car release. I bought my Scion tC in 2005 and the Supercharger came out in 2006 along with lots of other equipment. Granted when I bought the car it did have a few trd/hotchkis options on it but nothing major

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

But the fact that there are quite of bit of TRD Japan parts available for this car means to me that Scion is dropping the ball for people who don't like to be stock, yet want parts that won't "void your warranty".

The "Build a Scion" app shows a TRD "Performance Dual Exhaust" (looks to be just a cat-back) for $1100.

I think that should answer your question. Any TRD parts they offer are going to be horrifically overpriced compared to equivalent parts from other sources. Most people don't value their warranty enough to spend that kind of money (or are willing to swap back to stock if they need something done).

TRD has always been over priced when it comes to their exhaust systems on all models.

Their suspension components have being decently priced imo (which is what I would want). They def aren't the biggest "bang for the buck" or cheapest vs aftermarket options, but they do a great job when you have all the parts working together (shocks, springs, sway bar/strut bar).

chenshuo 01-21-2013 12:46 PM

they are busy solving the problem with too few cars produced, so they don't have time to focus on accessories that people may or may not buy. MY2014 is coming out soon so they might be busy with that as well. They are also busy fixing all the problems with the current model year. Bottom line, they are busy!
