how do you get your profile picture to show on the left?

I uploaded my profile pic (just 100x70 pixel) onto the site, but my posts don't show it yet. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to hit a certain # of posts prior to the photo showing up?

You uploaded a profile picture, not an avatar. Take another look at the control panel.
