auto climate control units at japanparts

So japanparts.com is now selling the automatic climate control assembly. I know it's been somewhat discussed before and pretty much just left at "you'll need more parts and stuff so probably not gonna happen" but i figured i'd send them a message to see if they know what other parts are needed and if it can be properly installed on a brz/frs that did not have it from the factory. Figured it's worth a shot since they're selling them separate. Maybe they know the secret

I'm looking forward to hearing what you find out!

Nope. J-Parts takes no liabilty when it comes to "modding" parts to fit cars. There is no way they would ever know what parts would be required on a USDM, EDM, AUDM, etc to make a JDM part "fit".

I just looked over the exploded views of the panels, harnesses, wiring and associated motors, plumbing, etc..

You really would want to wait for the Scion to release a dual-zone car or get a BRZ.

I don't even know if this would be plug-n-play swappable on a USDM dual zone without a look at the JDM harnesses.

I can promise you this would also require swapping the heater air mix box.

yea i thought about that afterwards and realized there would need to be 2 separate paths for the air to flow at different temperatures. What would be cool is if someone were to make a 3rd party kit that just works off of whatever's there to at least make it look more modern. Something like the scoshe kit for the camero/mustang even that give you a 4 inch display would be nice or even something that looks like the high spec unit just without the dual zone feature. maybe even have it's own thermostat option that can be wired up so you can select a specific temperature. Wishful thinking i suppose. i would've gotten the brz limited but the the only reason i got any car at all was cause my 2011 tc got flooded in hurricane sandy and even the fr-s was beyond my budget but i just had to have it. now i'm just slowly putting aside money for aftermarket stuff as i make my payments

You'll probably lose all HVAC functionality though. No heat or A/C.

Must be some way to connect the knobs. Im pretty sure it doesnt happen like that considering how different it is but a guy can hope right.

another solution is to get a BRZ limited in the first place ;)

I inquired about this exact thing a few months ago. Japanparts can't pull up all the diagrams needed nor can they help you with acquiring parts. I even went to my local Subaru parts department to try and get the diagrams on parts and wires and they couldn't find it.

None of the connectors line up on the back, different amount of pins, multiple cables etc.. As previously stated I know people think its dumb but I want it and if I want to get it I want it to at least work properly.

im actually emailed scoche earlier to see if they have any plans or possibilities of getting a touch screen system made for the fr-s/brz premium to at least make it look more modern

Rather not spend an extra 5k and It is a little late for that now ;) and nice let us know if you get a good response.

Someone motivated (vendor) needs to get the wiring diagrams for the auto climate harness and manual control and experiment with a harness. You'll probably never get dual zone without extensive modification but you should be able to have functional control.
