Racing Schools
 

I love my FR-S but will be the first that I haven't pushed it to its limits. Does anyone know of any driving / drifting schools anywhere in the U.S.A?

The country is littered with them. There may not be a track which offers HPDE in Tennessee, but i know Georgia and Ohio do. You may have to make a bit of a trip out of it, but you can certainly find something.

Have you considered attending an autocross (autox) event beforehand? I don't know if you have before, but the general recommendation I give to new performance drivers is to start in autocross for a season and then progress to HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) and/or trackday events. The benefits of autocross are that its cheap, easy on the car and consumables and the most plentiful. Most importantly it allows you to learn the limits of your car in a lower speed and low risk setting. It will allow you to pick up the track faster too once you know how to control and recognize what your car is doing at the limit.

He's correct. Know you and your car's limits. Your car is an extension of you shelf.. You can't learn to walk or run Just by someone telling you how to do it. You gotta master it yourself. Plus, when you do autocross, you make connections with people that can give you deals and information about other events. Autocross is fun, Just be smart and know the limits.

that's why once i get mine, gonna find a big empty lot and figuring out what the extent of the car's and my limits are. if i knew of a driving school around here i'd go. definately one of the best mods you can get for your car. improving yourself

Anybody know of one in the San Antonio, or Central-Texas area?

Definitely not a stranger to technical driving (long background of low-n-slow rockcrawing, mug bogging, getting stuff sideways on a dirt road, and driving fast in a +750hp twin turbo cummins), but all of that is pretty much limited to driving trucks.

I'd love to take a class or learn how to drive a tiny, well balanced, low slung sports car like a pro. I tell ya, the clutch on my new FRS threw me for a loop when all my experience is with super heavy racing/competition clutches on trucks. I mean my diesel trucks had like 2-foot throw shifters and clutches that were like doing leg-presses for pete's sake. Lol. But it sure is a blast to drive (in the first 24 hours I've owned it, I put 300 miles on it, despite buying it only 20miles away from my house).

There used to be an autocross meet at the AT&T Center once a month on Sundays. You may want to start there, and see if you can get more info.

A good place to start is www.scca.com find your region and go from there... autocross is a good place to start since it is easier and cheaper on your car....it will be under solo.
