Stock tires to Big Bear
I'm wondering if taking my FR-S to Big Bear to snowboard is a good idea. I've read much about how these tires are terrible for grip and that many people have switched them out as soon as winter hit (in other states that are snowy). It would be next weekend (jan 26). I have on the stock tires (Michelin HP) and would use "snow mode" on my A/T. Good idea? Bad idea?
I went to Mt. Baldy with another car recently and have seen others try to drive on a thin sheet of ice and just slide sideways downhill. So of course, this makes me a little uneasy and will definitely avoid any ice areas. Thanks! |
I would definitely NOT recommend that. Unless you want to reshape the bodywork on a guard rail. These tires seriously have no grip on snow, they have no traction tread and the rubber is hard, so no grip aid on snow. I live on a street with a little slope to it and could not get the car 1/4 of the way up the block, just came to a dead stop, wheels spinning. I would bum a ride in a friends car with proper snow tires on it.

I sooo dearly wanted to take it up there but No.
Just don't. Get winter studded tires if you want to |
