C Stock - Strut Bars Allowed?
 

So my plan is to do a front sway bar and 225 RS3's on the stock wheels to stay in stock class, but what are the rules on strut bars? Through reading the SCCA document (and not fully understanding it, car noob) and online research, I just can't get a firm stance on the strut bars.


Are replacement strut bars in the front, and adding one in the rear grounds for moving to STX? Or are they allowed in stock?

I'd get Sam's front bar, 235/40 Z2 tires for stock and align it.

Stock isn't 100% stock. You can do somethings, but not everything.

The basics you can do:

One sway bar, in this case you want to do the front, because you don't want a bigger rear. But you could remove the rear if you ran a stock front. Basically you monkey with one or the other, but not both.

You can change the shocks and struts, but you can't run coil-overs. They have to run stock springs, at stock ride heights. Koni's arrive very soon, I've sold 9 of the 14 sets I'm getting already.

You can run the camber/crash bolts to get as much camber as you can in front.

You can swap brake pads and any fluid (brake and oil) is ok.

You can do anything you want to the exhaust BEHIND the OEM converter... and it must exit behind the driver

You can run any wheel or tire you want. But the wheels have to be stock size (diameter and width) and only vary 1/4" in offset from stock. You can slap as a big a tire you can on there though.

There are other things, like a replacement air filter that are ok. You can remove the spare tire stuff....

Stock is pretty stock which is what makes the competition so good. And it's not hard to setup for. I think a 235 might be a little much for a stock 7" wheel, not sure the ZII's come in a 225 or not though so that might be why Fred is recommending that. From what I'm seeing I'd have to say that you want to look at ZII's over R-S3's (which I have and they are sticky when warm, but loud on the road, not very great in the rain, and not good cold).

Is the replacement of the rear sub-frame bushings illegal for stock? I believe so but thought I'd ask.

No not legal. The only bushings you can replace are swaybar bushings on one end of the car.

There are some allowances for struts as well but those are a little complicated.

I'm getting OT, but fyi the 235 Z2's are not very wide and are not pinched on 7" RPF1 rims. 255 Z2's ,measure over 40 mm wider...weird.

So the 215s I have on the way are going to be miniscule?

That is weird. I was debating between the 225/45 new BFG Rivals and the 235/40 ZIIs mounted on stock rims to run RTR when not using the Hoosiers. Wonder if a 245/40/17 Rival would work on the 17x7 stock rim, they are supposed to have very stiff sidewalls.
