FRAM CA9482 Airfilter louder?
Recently replaced my OEM airfilter with this fram one and ever since I did, the car sounds louder? Is this normal?
|
i believe their is a slight increase in sound when you replace the air filter. But most people dont use Fram. its either k&n or the other tuner companies

Check to make sure your airbox is sealed properly.

Bah it looks like the Airbox isn't completely flush. Is there a trick to putting the filter in correctly? I just managed to remove the intake tube to give me more room to work with. Is there a better way?
Has to be one of the more difficult air filters to put in a car tho lol. (Changing the oil is pretty easy though hah) |
theres no trick really, i just kept wiggling mine and taking it back off and trying again. it took 4 or 5 tries before i got lucky and mine went on and lined up perfectly.

After many attempts this is how flush I could get it:
Attachment 25762 is this normal? I went ahead and bought an STP version (that ended up being the same exact filter) and it seems to have an outer slack similar to this. Would this much of a lack of seal generate a louder engine? Is there any problems to having a lack of a flush seal ( such as the Ike above ) |
My stock filter shows in between the covers. Must just be the way it is
|
FYI the TRD is perfect fit
|
The pic above is pretty much how mine fits too. I have the TRD as well, and found it to be a little tighter than the stock filter (makes more noise as well). The stock filter looks to be very restrictive and it doesn't surprise me that a pleated paper filter like a standard Fram piece would allow more intake noise.
