Spare wheel

In France, the GT86 is delivered without spare wheel but with an electric compressor and a bottle of repair liquid. This solution which unfortunately is now trendy on numerous cars (in europe) is not really efficient in case of important problem on the tyre. (not only a little nail)
Having requested to my tyres dealer to investigate with Toyota the possibility to mount a spare wheel (space-saving wheel) in the car particularly as the place exist in the trunk but it was answered that this solution do not exist (sic!) and the only solution remaining possible was to buy an original wheel (around 600€) as no other type of wheel can be mounted on this car.....
So, as this totally ridiculous answer do not fully satisfy me and as I understand that any wheel with 5 holes Dia 100mm can be mounted (please confirm) I assume that I can use any wheel with these caracteristics as a spare wheel. On the other hand, and due to the space in the trunk, a space-saving wheel will be the most adequate and I think that the use of a wheel like this could be a correct investment.
But anyhow, somebody could help? For example if the car in your country is equiped in giving the toyota reference number or if a spare wheel in a Prius (5/100) can be mounted on 86?
I'm sure the community could help.

What the? Man, this is just silly. Here in the US we get a space saver spare, in Africa they get a full size spare and in Europe you get nothing. It's just weird. Meh.

You should be able to get any 5x100 spare from your subaru dealer from a Forester, Impreza, Legacy, etc.. You should also be able to score one on the cheap off Ebay. I picked up a set of 16" steelies for 100 US a couple years back.

It's good that you didn't take their answer as bond. Good luck and happy hunting! Let us know how it turns out and if you need any further assistance.

Both GT 86 and BRZ come with full size spare wheel in Russia. I hate it as it looks ugly and makes the trunk hardly usable. Would gladly swap for the flat floor in the trunk (an also 20 kilo of weight saving or so) but the answer from the dealer is the same - no options and no spare parts! Rediculous! So, I have the same problem as you but vice-versa :) Does anyone know part numbers for the European boot setup: full size trunk matt and all the plastic stuff which goes under it instead of the spare wheel? Don't even need this tyre repair set - will not bother using it anyway.

What are the dimensions of the space saver in the US?
Do you know or can you find out the product code for the spare?

This is funny because I've been wanting to swap my space saver with a full sized spare.

The Toyota 86 in Australia was initially supplied with a full size spare. Toyota changed this to a tire repair kit in September. They do not supply or recommend a space saver. The full size spare eats into the already small boot (trunk in US). See pic attached for reference. Please someone post the dimensions & hopefully the product code for the space saver spare & ancillaries.

The tire is a Yokohama T135/80D16. The rim is 16" but I don't know the exact width.

Their on Ebay from 50-80 US. http://compare.ebay.com/like/1709627...Types&var=sbar

I for one believe in the spare tire curse.

Numerous people have taken out their spare tire to save weight and the next week or month later have numerous flat tires!

So yes, even if its half a spare or a full tire, keep it in the car or else.

Interesting. They're the dimensions of the Prius spare. I wonder if it is the same rim? Anyone know? Will it clear the brakes on the 86/FRS?

As long as it is at least a 16", 5x100 and hub centric you should be good. I don't know the hub bore of the Prius, so I can't say for sure.

Pretty much any Suby spare will be the same.

You also have to buy the foam or the trunk wouldn't be flat in the middle.

Any idea on where to buy the foam/spare
Scion won't sell one to an overseas customer

Maybe a Subaru or Toyota online parts store that ships international. Another option would be to trade someone on here. I was thinking about buying what you have, to save a few pounds

Happy to buy your spare and foam if at a reasonable price
Don't know that I have much to swap you with
Mine came with a bit of foam and a can of goo
