What are these things on the rear deck?

If I get an 86, I'm thinking of building a bandpass sub box in the trunk with its port vented through a hole in the rear deck. It looks like I'll have to remove one of these things, whatever they are, to do that. I'm thinking they're either release latches to fold down the seatback, or flow-through vents for air circulation. Can someone confirm?

Thanks

They are for car seats. Take off the covers and attach the top tether for a car seat. They are part of the LATCH system that is law for all North American automakers to provide. I know, because I use them for my kids' seats.

I think it would be too high up wouldn't it? Isn't there a certain height you want to stay close too (just below the shoulders or something?)

I thought it was for hanging kids. That's what the picture on top looks like at least.

Nope - they are NOT strong enough. Don't do it. Use a proper set of belts with an ASM device mounted to the upper rear seat belt anchor bolt.

Yup, been through Scroths info on mounting harnesses and the child anchors at NOT strong enough.and actually for the shoulder straps you want them ideally horizontal or higher.
