Evo's are gone, FR-S time!
Hey everyone, glad I found this forum! I had been lurking the wrong forum apparently, all the good info is obviously here. I'm stunned at the amount of aftermarket stuff going on.
Just wanted to share how I got into this car. I've always been into cars, but never drove aggressive until I got a brand new 2004 SVT Focus. That car was awesome, and handled great. But I really wanted an Evo, so I quickly traded for this: http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g..._00/Evo029.jpg It was fully bolted and cammed on stock turbo, making around 330whp. I loved my Evo VIII, but got married and suckered into selling it. So I traded for a car I'd keep "stock". That's when I got this: http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g.../Speed3001.jpg Ended up modding the Speed 3 to 300whp, but missed the Evo and traction. So after 2 years, I traded it on this: http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g...s_00/065_2.jpg Dumped a whole lot of money into it, and hardly ever drove it. I ruined the feel of the car with coilovers and oversized wheels. Still fun to drive, but I wanted something I could drive, and put tons of miles on. Enjoy it everyday and not mod to much (hopefully ha). My options boiled down to the Focus ST and FR-S. I never drove the ST, just sat in it. Super nice car. Finally got to test drive the FR-S down a very twisty road. SOLD ME!! So last Monday I picked up this: http://i249.photobucket.com/albums/g.../fr-sinsta.jpg I have just over 500 miles now, and am following the break-in properly. I've always wanted something small...like a Miata or S2000, but this was perfect. Do I miss the big torque from my turbo cars? Sure. But, I've never owned a properly setup RWD car. I'll say this much after a week of driving the FR-S...I think I need a driver's course! The Evo spoiled me! So that's it, I couldn't be happier. I love the car stock, and for now just plan on the TRD exhaust and filter (keeping warranty). I may do an E85 tune with it soon, not sure. Gonna try to take it slow with this car, especially to keep the great balance. Look forward to learning a lot from this platform, the information out there already is overwhelming! Will give more impressions after I break her in, that moment can't come soon enough :happyanim: |

You will realize that you can drive the fr-s at 100% and other high hp cars you can only enjoy in quick bursts, enjoy the new ride!!!

Appreciate it! Honestly, when I bought this car, my thoughts were to let Scion take care of it ;). The 2 year free service I got is appealing, and I plan on using it. If I stick with that plan, I'd get TRD mods only. Hope to have TRD exhaust and filter installed with an oil change right after 1k miles. Of course I'll have to pay for that oil change.
The Visconti (sp?) E85 tune is crazy tempting. I live in a very small town, and a new BP 4 miles from my house now has E85. I think around 200whp in this car would be perfect. I get the mod bug badly, but am trying hard to resist! Just kinda watching around right now at everyone trying different setups. Couldn't be happier with this new platform :) |
Congrat ! nice picked up.
It's hard to not mod this car for long if you already here. Believe me :) |
Enjoy the car stock. Too many people buy a car and never take a chance to get to know the good and bad about it. And an autocross school is highly recommended. I took my Evo X and spun out twice on the first day. Mine is basically stock and still plenty of fun. Take it slow, enjoy and save your money when you can really appreciate a mod done right.

Great selection of cars, I have a special place in my heart for Evo's. The FR-S is a blast stock , but it's just begging to be tweaked.

I came from an EvoVIII to an FR-S by way of a Jeep Wrangler.... Definitely what I needed in my life.
I learned when I had the Evo... from how I enjoyed driving it most.. that handling was what I needed...power was secondary. |

Congrats & welcome! I've owned 2 EVOs in the past as well (8 & 9). This car is definitely fun to drive, you won't be disappointed. Don't be surprised when the mod bug hits you again, lol!

congratulations! Your VIII was beautiful. always keep in mind this car will built for a purpose using certain parts. Removing and swapping too much will take away from what was worked so hard to achieve. Quote:

You have had a great line of cars!!! We have had pretty much the same line-up....
Our last 2 shop cars were Evo's... http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6004/6...d55cde72_b.jpg bros2 by Yo_Keutla, on Flickr Jeremy's X http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7204/6...bd77444b_b.jpg white_X by Evo_MR, on Flickr My IX http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7049/6...1ce8cdd1_b.jpg Weds by Evo_MR, on Flickr Now, the two shop cars :) http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8191/8...058cf6bc_b.jpg CTT1 by Evo_MR, on Flickr Jeremy just picked up a Focus ST for his DD as well. Such a nice car all around. I can't believe all the features and goodies you get in that car for around $27k. Anyways, congrats on the new purchase! The car is great in stock form, but if you decide to mod it..........We'll be here for you ;) Cheers! -Yo |
Awesome story man! I've always wanted to pull the trigger on an Evo but just never did, hoping for a wagon at some point. The sport wagon came out, and it just didn't do it for me. Now that I'm in the BRZ not sure if I can ever go back to FWD or AWD again. :P
