Filtermag has arrived

I bought this from http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...Term=filtermag

I like the concept and looks superior to a drain plug magnet. Yeah, the magnets are f**king strong. I can't pull the device off, it has to be slidden off the top of the filter.

Where is all that metal coming from? I would just change the filter regularly instead. If you have serious metal going through your filter then you have a serious problem with your engine.

It can really only come from the camshaft timing chains and sprockets anyway.

Haha! I bought the red one too. I tried to take it off and gave up, figuring that it'd only slide off those few times I do an oil change.

It is more a case of additional filtering. The Filtermag blurb goes like this : oil filters "only" filter down to about 20 microns. The magnets trap the ultra fine stuff the filter misses. I have not seen evidence of this and I do not know if sub 20 micron ferrous material will cause significant wear over the life of the engine but I like the concept and I don't think there are any cons. It is a device to keep the oil just that little bit cleaner.

Good idea since I went and bought a fumoto valve and was missing the magnetic plug for easy changes.

Just wondering, do I need 2 of these to cover the whole circumference of the oil filter or will one filtermag on one side do? :)

I have just one, there is room to have 2 if you want that 'wrap around'. It depends on how hard you are driving it. If you track your car or drive it really hard consistently I would go with 2. If you are just daily driving then 1 should be fine. I have have it just because I got rid of the magnetic drain plug.

Also, can be found here since original link not working anymore. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ftm-ra300
