COTA Available Track Days?

Anyone know of any available COTA track days?
I realize its a long shot.

edj 01-13-2013 02:56 PM

a very long shot... :(

they are not allowing any of the "amateur" track day clubs (eg. Driver's Edge)
to schedule any new dates.

the scuttlebutt is that COTA may be bringing in somebody in-house to put on
track days with "professional" instructors and allowing only experienced drivers.
but nobody really knows at this point what their plans are. track management has a
few issues and until those get sorted out your average track day junkie is SOL.

If you have an SCCA National road race license there will be a race weekend on
March 8-10, 2013. they are expecting 400+ drivers for the weekend.

Had no idea the situation was that bad! That blows thanks for the heads up.

There was big publicity about it. COTA cancelled all their open track days, allegedly even one's that had already been paid for. They only allowed the already paid for days to continue after bad press through Jalopnik and other sources. As edj said, it appears they're making the track "exclusive" and "high-end" instead of opening it to the public.

This is worth a read.

Yeah, COTA has left a really bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. Their actions are very slimey to say the least. It actually took a phone call from Governor Perry to make them honor some of the dates that were paid for. F1 is never going to be big in the US when these guys act this way...

fyi, The Driver's Edge held their track days at COTA over the weekend and the
initial reports are that it went very well. apparently COTA management was there
and were pleasantly surprised with the operation.

so don't give up hope yet! ;-)

Smokescreen. It was all about money the whole time. I don't believe that COTA actually thought DEs would be 'wild' or 'dangerous'. How dumb would they have to be to have no idea how DEs are supposed to be run and sign contracts for them? They cancelled contracts after selling to a higher bidder. Simple as that. Horrible.

I understand they have so much money into that track and want maximum returns. Its totally shade ball. I will stick with local tracks now.

We should be racing there at the end of the year with ChumpCar.. we shall see if it actually happens though.

I'd definitely be at that race if they run it. That said, they did say that the "special Texas Track" on the schedule is not COTA.

MVP Track Time (www.MVPTrackTime.com) will be at COTA February 1-3. Report and video to follow.

I saw John making statements that make it sound like it's not COTA. In Texas though, what the hell else is a special track? MSR-H? MSR-C? TSW? no....

It'll be interesting to see what happens. COTA is the only track in Texas worth driving there for.
