Is perma plate any good?

Dealer wants to add perma plate for $795 and says that it's a company policy to add it to every frs that comes in.

run from that fee!

White64Goat 01-12-2013 11:08 PM

Call the State Attorney General and ask if that's a legit practice. Bet they'll drop that mandatory BS real quick. Crock of Crap is what that is. Find another dealer............RUN

abutterman 01-13-2013 12:08 AM

unless it had already been applied, they can't tell you that you have to buy anything from them. I would report them to the better business bureau and go elsewhere.

DBacon1052 01-13-2013 12:20 AM

They told me straight out they add it to make more money... After trying to negotiate with them, I decided to walk. I think it's complete bs. Would this be against scion policy or can this dealer do this. Btw the dealer is Tustin Toyota.

I haven't put down the money for it yet. I was going to today until I saw the extra charge. I told them over the phone that I didn't want them to touch the outside of the car and the salesman said that was fine. This was the only reason I decided to drive up there today. What a waste of my time!

They aren't REQUIRED by any law to put any paint protection on the car. It's just shit they use to make money...don't stand for that bullshit. You did the right thing, just walk away and find a different dealer, if they really wanted the sale they would forgo the paint protection and not touch the paint. Even if they did already put it on the car you could say "I didn't want that crap so I'm not going to pay for it" ether they would have to say "okay" and they would take it off the bill as incentive for you to buy or they say they wont do it and you can just walk like you did. You did the right thing, you'll find another one.

abutterman 01-13-2013 12:44 AM

If they're forcing every customer to add this and not giving them a choice then yea that's probably against scion policy. This isn't any better on their part than the dealers that were adding thousands of dollars to the price for "market markup" just cause they felt like it.

If the cars come from the factory with Scion branded add ons such as bespoke or the mudguards, you're usually stuck paying for it if you want that particular car. Scion dealers are also known for adding numerous aftermarket parts to maybe 1 or 2 of their cars in inventory such as one that I saw at a dealer by me that had Katzkins leather and the brz spoiler installed. They'll generally only do that though if they have a few cars in stock that have nothing extra installed which they will sell at base price. If they told me that the car as I see it right now has no add ons but if I want the car I have no choice but to pay them to add stuff on, I'd tell them to shove it up their ass and walk out

BVAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH tell your dealer to S A D.

DBacon1052 01-13-2013 02:01 AM

GO READ FAQ'S ON THIS SHIT. http://permaplate.com

They only sell products through dealer (no wonder dealer adds it)

They recommend only washing with the Paintguard Renewer that they sell (also through the dealership)

Finally, water and leaves are apparently highly acidic and will eat through this crap!
FROM WEBSITE
"Park wisely. Try not to park next to sprinklers, under trees or near construction sites. Water spots, bird droppings, tree sap, and leaves can be highly acidic and should be removed immediately if found on the surface."

BRZnut 01-13-2013 11:06 AM

I would call Scion direct and ask them about what the dealer told you that it is "required"...That is BS

To me that sounds like $795 for them to wash your car and make sure there's an even amount of swirls front to back and put some wax on it. I'd pass on that. I'm going to Mr. Sparkle in a couple weeks for paint correction and opticoat which is a legit product and i'll be paying much less than that :)

LOL!

As much as I love my FR-S, I wouldn't have got it if they added that crap. $795 is quite a bit when it comes down to the monthly payment, $15-20 usually.

UH, duh.................gee, isn't that true no matter what you put on your car? Uh, common sense.

Kinda like "Don't park your car next to an Atomic Bomb test because your car might become radioactive". Ya think?
