Tick tick tick from the dash
Anyone getting a very light intermittent tick tick tick sound from the dash. Kind of like a tiny piece of something rattling.
|
Yep, most noticeable on really cold days, before the cabin warms up.

On obnoxiously cold days I sometimes get a ticking from the passenger side dash area.
I assume it is the plastic expanding as the cabin temp increases. |

OMFG. Yes. I get a really loud tick on a regular basis, even when idling at a light. Used to think it was rock chips happening until I realized I could hear it at idle. Pretty positive my glovebox rattles in some fashion as well or there's some kind of flex on the passenger side that induces noises. As with most cars this one gets noisier in the cold, which is usual.

is the fan on? check the blower motor for debris?

If it eventually goes BOOM after the tick, tick, tick.....problem solved. :lol:Probably just the ducts expanding while getting warm.

I have had this ticking noise from the passenger side dash area and it is for sure something with the heating system. Try this. When you hear this noise, turn your fan to setting 0 and I bet the noise will go away, mine does.

I've noticed almost every reported creak, tick, tock, ping, etc in my car...until I installed the Invidia N1 catback and dual 12" subs. Problem solved ;)
But really, this car makes almost every noise you can imagine and it's not a "you get what you pay for" situation either. There were sacrifices in order to keep this car within the price range of the average Joe. I personally don't mind any of these noises when they're around. There's some problem areas that can be addresses with a little bit of DIY insulation or sound deadening. Other areas can't be addressed as easily but can be tweaked to make it less noticeable/less frequent. Sorry for the long post but it seems like every 6 hours there's a thread like this and people either get concerned (if you're concerned about it you should be visiting the dealer to address it on paper) or just want to see if anyone else experiences the same thing (the search button is your friend). Don't fret over these little noises, it's a first generation car that had to have creature comforts cut in order to live up to the price point. |
Not temp related. Only occurs in motion over unsmooth roads. Not fan related. Dealer offered to fix it but it requires removing the dash. I thought that migh cause more problems than it solves.

I can reduce a lot of the rattling by keeping the glovebox open. This is true even when it is empty. I still haven't figured out how to eliminate the noise.

Check the passenger side dash speaker cover.
Lightly pressing on it would recreate the sound for me. I had the dealership look at it but I'm not going to know if they fixed it until I get a nice cold day. |
This was happening towards the front left side of my dash, speaker area. Used the faded and put it 2 towards the back and problem solved. Glad it was the speakers and nothing else.
